Bits And Briefs From Cullasaja And Higdonville Miss Marie Jennings Staff Correspondent Church Items Higdonville church had a picnic last Sunday at the home of Mr and Mrs. Billy Higdon. At Wednesday night prayer services at Higdonville church, the Bible is being studied under the leadership of the adults. They started ?(ith Genesis and study one or two chapters at each meet ing. Major Higdon was in charge this week and discussed the 5tn and 6th chapters of Genesis. Aft er prayer meeting, a business meetr ing was held for the election of church officers and Sunday School teachers. Community Will Meet Higdonville Community Devel opment Organization will hold its regular meeting tonight < Thurs day i at 7:30 at the picnic area and will have a picnic supper. Come on out, folks, and bring a basket full of food. Cullasaja community had a pic nic and business meeting Monday night at the community picnic area, ? The main feature was, of course, supper,, but the men also accom plished some needed repairs on the water system and the gather ing darkness made the group realize the need for a lighting sys tem. Fred Rogers was appointed to see about getting the area lighted. Mrs. C. T. Bryson was appoint ed chairman of a committee to plan a booth for the Macon Coun ty Fair. She named Mrs. Conrad Barrett. Mrs. Fred Rogers, Mrs. Leona Sadler, Mrs. Roy Stiwinter. and Mrs. Elma Russell for the committee. ' John Bryson. president, report ed that the community has put up nine sections of stove pipe, re I placed all broken and missing | panes, and painted the vestibule of. the Salem Methodist Church. The group voted to buy enough paint to complete the job. Satur day. July 19, was set for a work ing at the church. Those volunteering for keeping the picnic area clean during July were Fred Rogers and Roy Sti winter, first week; Pritchard Rus sell, second week; Pat Cable, third week; and John Bryson. fourth week. A round-up report shows that more than six million U. S. dairy cows were bred artificially in 1957. In North Carolina. 60.360 cows were bred artificially last year, ot 16 per cent of the state total. tn numbers. Wisconsin was the leading State with more than a million artificially bred cows. Min nesota followed with more than' half a million, and then New YoiJc and Pennsylvania -with a little lets than half a million each. ' Percentagewise, states with far fewer dairy cows made an even better showing. Maine ranked first, then Utah and Massachu setts.
