Items Of Interest From Cowee Community MJm Ceclle Gibson Staff Correspondent ! A large number attended the community development organiza tion meeting at Liberty Baptist Church last Thursday night. August 8. Tommy Raby. president, read a card received by the organization from M/Sgt. R. L. McGaha and family Irom Guam. The commit tee in charge of the name posts reported that most all posts and names nad been erected. County Agent T. H Pagg and Mrs. Florence Sherrill, home agent, attended the meeting and plans for the county fair were discussed. Mrs. Sherrill urged everyone to bring something to the fair, and revealed that breads, cakes and pastries as well as canned foods, needle work, flow ers, and handicrafts may be en tered as individual exhibits. Mi. Fagg said that since the fair is earlier this year it will be possible to take such fresh vegetables as tomatoes, squash, beans, cucum bers. and anything else you might have. Plans are being made for local talent entertainment at the fair on Thursday and Friday night. August 21 and 22. Anyone :n the community who can make music, dance, or sing, are asked to let Mrs. Eva Cunningham, recreation chairman, know so their name can be included in the program. In connection with the fair a chicken barbecue supper will be held Thursday. August 21. at 6:30 at the F.F.A. Building. Tickets for this were distributed to mem bers of the community to be sold, and can also be purchased at the date of the supper. Plans were made to begin work /) n a community booth for the fair. Work started on this Monday night. Miss Claudette Leatherman is chairman of the committee to work on a 4-H booth. Working with her are Mrs. Claude Leather man, Mrs. George Byrd, Mrs Weaver Holbrook, and Mrs. Wood row Gibson. Following the business session. Mr. Fagg interviewed some of the group in regard to community de velopment organization work ana future plans. Those taking part in the discussion were Bill Raby. Troy Hurst. Picnic Tonight The home demonstration club is holding a "family night" picnic at the picnic area tonight. Augusi 14. at 6:30. The whole community is joining with members to have a big supper and a working at the area. Welcome Hoppers Cowee welcomes some new comers to the community. They are Mr. and Mrs. Alex Hopper and family, who recently moved here from Rabun Gap, Ga. The Hoppers live in the house recently purchased by Woodrow Gibson from Carroll Gibson. Personals Two school mates of 1892 got together last Friday afternoon for a visit. Mrs. Edd Parrish. of Etna, spent the afternoon with Mrs. Ada Dalton. Miss Jane Byrd. daughter of Mr and Mrs. George Byrd. left Sunday for a week at the Frances Clark Piano Workshop in Brevard. Mr. and Mrs. Burke Cole and sons, and Mrs. Edwina Cole, spent the past week end visiting in Greenville, S. C. Mr. and Mrs. Claude Raby, and two children, and Miss Louise Raby, of Greenville. S, C., spent the week end with Mrs. Albert Raby. The Rev. and Mrs. Wesley Hooper and family went to Whit tier last Sunday, where they at tended a birthday dinner for Mrs. Hooper's father, Jarrett Davis. Mr. and Mrs. Kelly Dalton and Mrs. Jean McGaha of Gafney. S. C.. and Miss Lib Dalton, of Charlotte, spent three days last week with their aunt, Mrs. W. H. Walton, and Mr. and Mrs. Buel Mason and family. x Mr. and Mrs. Harold Dalton and boys, Stevie and Johnnie, are spending this week with Mr. Dal ton's parents. Mr. and Mrs. Pratt Dalton. and family. Mich., brought Frances and Eddie Mason home last week and visited Mr. and Mrs. Buel Mason over the week end. Attending the DeHart reunion at Cold Springs Baptist Church, near Bryson City, last Sunday were Mrs. Mary Jane Gibson, Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Gibson and family. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Gib son and family, the Rev. and Mrs N. E. fiolden. and Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Shepherd and children. Mrs. I D. Leatherman is spend ing some time with her children, who " live in Michigan. She will visit her daughter and son-in-law. Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Munafo, and three children, of Detroit, and Mr. and Mrs. Zackie Leather man and children, and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Dunn and son, of Battle Creek, Mich. ' Mrs. Mary Jane Gibson is spend ing this week with relatives in Bryson City. W J Forester D;es At Rome William Judson Forester. 79, farmer of Bryson City. Route 3. died August 6 at his home. Funeral services for Mr. For ester were conducted the 8th at the Brush Creek Baptist Church, of which he was a member. The Rev. John Freeman officiated. A native of Swain County, he v.as married in 1920 to Miss Pallie Ammons, who survives. Other survivors include a son, Fred Forester and a daughter, Miss Faye Forester, both of Bry son City, Route 3. Stewart Staff Correspondent Telephone 274- J-l Chance Time At its regular meeting July 29. the Patton community develop ment group voted to change the time of the meeting from the first Tuesday night in each month to the last Tuesday night.
