HERE FRIDAY NIGHT - _
Panthers Roll Over
Cherokee 26 To 0
By GENE DOWDLE
The Franklin High Panthers
took advantage of visiting team
Cherokee High Braves' fumbles in
the first few minutes of play here
Friday night in Franklin's second
conference game to roll up a score
of 26 to 0.
In the first eight minutes of
the game Hyde, on a series of
plays through the line, took to
the right end to race 50 yards
for the initial score of the night.
Hyde then held the ball while
Kiser kicked the extra point.
Agaiij Cherokee made a mistake
in Franklin's favor, and "Red"
Seay plunged over the line from
the 1-yard line to add six more
points to Franklin's score. Kiser
also added the extra point.
Cherokee didn't threaten scor
ing until late in the second quar
ter when they managed to get
the ball within three yards of
paydirt, only to be held by the
Panthers. At the end of the first
half the score was Franklin 14
and Cherokee 0.
Early in the second half, speedy
Bobby "Pondy" Poindexter ran
65 yards on an inside belly play
for another rally for' Franklin. I
Because of a 15-yard penalty the
ball missed going through the
posts by inches for the extra j
point.
In the final quarter, the
Panther's opened up with a 40
yard pass from Williams to Poin
dexter for a 75-yard touchdown.
Once again this play connected,
only to be called back on a pen
alty. *
This was the next to the last
home game. The Panthers will be
guests at Hayesville next Friday
night.
