Miss Olivia Patton Retires As Area Blue Cross Official Miss Olivia Patton, of Franklin, has letired after 20 yi|aii as a group representative for Hospital S. ivi.it: Association, the Blue Cross and Blue Shield PJan. During air this time, she work ed out of the AshevUle office of the association. To commemorate the complet Miss Patton ion of her 20th year of service with Blue Cross, E. R. Lyman, ex-District Manager of the Ashe ville office, presented Miss Pattor. with a wrist watch at' a luncheon held ii) Asheville last week. In hU presentation, Mr. Lyman took not ol Miss Patton's "two decades of untiring efforts on be half of providing the nonprofit service of Blue Cross and Blue Shield Hospital and Surgical pro tection to thousands of residents of Western North Carolina. ' A native of Macon county. Mis* Patton is a graduate of Brenau' College, Gainesville, Ga. She taught for many years in the Greensboro public schools, oper ating a camp for t;irls in Franklin during the summer months. Event ually, Miss Patton gave up both teaching and the camp in order to assist in the rearing of her six nephews. She was engaged by Hospital Saving Association Oct. 1. 1938, serviing as a full-time representative from 1947 to the present. Among Miss Patton's principal achievements was enrolling in Blue Cross and Blue Shield the schools and the doctors in Hay wood. Jackson, and Macon coun ties. She enrolled Western Caro lina College employees as well as nearly all the automobile dealers in Haywood. Jackson, and Macon counties. For a number of years, she served on the board of trustees of Western Carolina College. Miss Patton will continue with the as sociation in the capacity of a non group, or part-time, representa tive. Henry, of Route 5, received instruction in the prin ciples of unit leadership. He is regularly ass.cned to Com pany B. of the 237th Ensineei Baualion in Hellbronn. The sergeant arrived in Europe in April, 1958 from Fort Bragg. N. C. He attended Franklin Hijh School. Recruit Shope Taking Training In S. C. FORT JACKSON, S. C. 'AHTNC; ? Recruit Charles E. Shope, 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. Prelo C. Shope. Route 2. Frank lin, N. C? is receiving eight weeks of basic combat training at Fort Jackson, S. C. The training is scheduled to be completed Oct. 18. Shope was graduated from Franklin High School in' 1958.
