Cullasaja and Higdonville Ramblin' Around MISS MARIE JENNINGS Staff Correspondent Meeting Held Cullasaja Rural Community De velopment Organization held its regular meeting at Cullasaja School Tuesday night, April 7, with Prltchard Russell, president, presiding. The meeting was open ed with group singing. The Rev. R. E. Stephenson led In prayer. The Rev. R. E. Stephenson, pastor of the Cullasaja Assembly of Ood Church, was elected religi ous activities leader, succeeding the Rev. Conrad Barrett. A free will offering for the American Cancer Society was taken. This offering amounted to $5. and the organization added $5 more, making the total con tribution $10. Plans were made for a supper to raise funds for community pro jects. This supper will be held Saturday night, April 25, in the ( Cullasaja School lunchroom. Serv ing will be from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. I The charge will be 75c for adults > their parents in Bakersville last week end. Mr. and Mrs. Hershel Keener and son, Kim. of Hendersonville. were guests of Mrs. Keener's sister, Mrs. Kenneth Clark, and Mr. Clark last week end. Miss Anna Setser and Aubrey House, of Atlanta, Ga., visited Mr. and Mrs. Gilmer Setser last week end. Mr. and Mrs. Jackie Kusterer and daughter, Cindy, of El Paso, Tex., are spending a 30-day leave with Mr. and Mrs. John Kusterer. This week, accompanied by Mrs. John Kusterer, they are visiting relatives in Raleigh and Rich mond, Va. Mrs. Bill Penland and son. Bill, spent last week end with Mr. Pen- j land In Macon, Ga., where he is employed. Harris L. Sanders, vice-president of Cooper D. Cass, Inc., of Win- j ston-Salem, and Charles E. San ders, who is with the customer 1 service department of the western area, visited their father, J. L. Sanders, recently. They were ac companied by James R. Warmack. of the Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Company, St. Paul, Minn. While here they went trbut fishing. Mrs. C. N. Dowdle is spending some time visiting her sister. Mrs. Marlon Bryson, and Mrs. Charlie Holland were ap pointed to the food committee for the supper. Persons In the community wishing to donate food for the supper should see one of these women. The public Is invited to the supper. A working; was set for Saturday. April 18, at the picnic ground, beginning early in the morning. The men plan to dig a garbage j pit and there is plenty of repaiidt work to be done, as someone has destroyed and damaged many of , the facilities around the grounds. The picnic tables also will be painted. At the May meeting a "white elephant" sale will be held to raise funds for the community. Members are asked to make their "white elephant" package some thing that can be used, even if It is of an amusing nature. The door prize was won by Richard Holland. Pat Cable dis missed the meeting with prayer. The 34 present enjoyed games and refreshments after the business meeting. Meetings Set Next Wednesday, April 22, has been set for a meeting of the WJS.C.S. of Salem Methodist Church at the home of Mrs. Bob Elders. The Women's Missionary Coun cil of the Cullasaja Assembly of God Church will meet Thursday afternoon. April 23, at the home of Mrs. Frank Blanton. Plan Bible School Sunday, tentative plans were made at the Higdonville Baptist Church for Bible school to begin June 1 with the pastor, the Rev. Paul Sorrells, acting as principal. Saturday, May 30, will be prepara tion day. Mrs. Sidney Clay and Mrs. W. W. Berry attended the Vacation Bible School Clinic last Thursday at the First Baptist Church. Misses Katherlne Berry and Nancy Berry, of the Higdonville church, participated in the "Youth Night" program at Franklin Bap tist Church Saturday night. David Corbin and Tommy Berry, also of the Higdonville church, acted as ushers. To Meet Higdonville Home Demonstra tion Club will meet today i Thurs day) at the home of Mrs. Ethel Home at 1:30. Attend Court The eighth grade class at Culla saja School enjoyed a trip to court Tuesday. The class has spent considerable time learning about the functions of the various court officials. They are planning a trial in their room. Cullasaja School is undergoing Spring housecleaning this week. The floors are getting a waxing. Juniorfi and seniors from Frank lin High have been decorating the auditorium at Cullasaja School this week for the annual junior senior banquet, which will be held Saturday night. Plan Service The Sugarfork Baptist Church plans to hold a song service and devotional at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Amnions Sunday afternoon, April 19, as announced by the pastor, the Rev. Jarvls Underwood. Mr. Ammons has been confined to his home because ol illness for many months and Mrs. Ammons does not get to attend church since she has to care for him. Singers are urged to attend. Personals Mr. and Mis. T. T. Henderson went to Charleston. S. C., last ,week to visit the Cypress and Magnolia Gardens. Little Karen Moore, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Moore, who has been very sick for the past week, has been discharged from the hospital. She is reported some what improved. Mrs. Oordon Gibson left Friday for Pontlac. Mich., where she will visit her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Russell, and their new baby daughter. Deborah Kay, and her other son and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Russell. Mrs. Fred Thompson has re turned home after spending the winter In Irwin, Pa., with her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs Horace Thompson, and their daughter, "Cissy". Mr. Thompson and his family brought his mother as far as Schinston, W. Va.. Sun day. where they were met by Mr. and Mrs. Charles Davidson and Mrs. Lee Davidson. Mrs. Thomp son came home with the David sons and Mrs. Lee Davidson, mother of Mrs. Horace Thompson and Charles Davidson, returned to Pennsylvania with the Thomp sons. Mrs. Davidson has been here a reminder Electric power will be off from 1:00 to 5:00 p. m. Sunday, April 19th in same areas as announced last week if weather conditions are favor able. If we have to change our plans again, due to weather announcements will be broadcast over ra dio stations WFSC and WMSJ between 10:00 a. m. and 12:00 Noon on Sunday. NANTAHALA POWER AND LIGHT CO, for several weeks visiting her son and other relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Jennings and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Jennings and son, Mark, made a trip to Ashe ville Saturday. Mrs. W. E. Brown, of Greenville, S. C?.. spent a few days here last week at the home of her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Moore, helping care for her mother, Mrs. J. W.
