MISS RUTH NORTON BECOMES BRIDE
OF LT. MAX R. PHILLIPS SUNDAY
Miss Ruth Norton, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. M. B. Norton, be
came the bride of Lt. Max R. Phil
lips, son of Mr. and Mrs. Nat Phil
lips, Sunday afternoon, May 31, at
4 o'clock at the Asbury Methodist
Church.
The Rev. Earl Crowe, pastor of
the church,, performed the double
ring ceremony before an altar
deborated with native greens,
baskets of white gladiolus, and
lighted candles.
Traditional wedding music was
presented by Miss Mary Lee
Howard, organist, and Roy M.
Biddle, Jr., vocalist.
The bride wore a dress of white
lace over satin, fashioned with a
sweetheart neckline and long
sleeves. Her only ornament was a
string of pearls, a gift of the
bridegroom. Her veil was attached
to a bride's cap and she carried
a white Bible topped with a white
orchid.
~ Mrs. Harry Pangle was matron
of honor and was her sister's only
attendant. She wore a dress of
aqua satin and carried a bouquet
of pink carnations.
Tommy Raby served as best
man, and ushers were Robert
Womack and James Kinsland.
The bride's mother wore a
street-length dress of rose lace
over taffeta with white accessories

attending Western Carolina Col

Lt. Phillips is a graduate of
Franklin High School and of N. C.
State College, Raleigh, where he
received 9 degree in civil engineer
ing. Prior to entering service he
was employed by Pennsylvania
Railroad.
Following a short wedding trip
to Florida, the couple will make
their home at Fort Rucker, Ala.

Succumbs At
His Home
Romulus F. Bryant, 63. a Macon
County native and farmer, died
Monday at 6:30 a.m. of a self
inflicted gunshot wound near the
heart. His body was found behind
a bam on his f?rm in the Iotla
community by his brother-in-law.

Funeral services for Mr. Bry
ant, who was the son of Mrs.
Tlmmle Ray Bryant, and the late
Henry J. Bryant, were conducted
Tuesday afternoon at 4 o'clock
at the Iotla Baptist Church, of
which he was a member. Officiat
ing were the Rev. M. C. Wyatt and
the R?v. Judson Duvall. Burial
was in the church cemetery.
Surviving, in addition to his
mother, are two brothers, W. O.
Bryant and H. L. Bryant, both
of Franklin; and four sisters. Miss
Belle Bryant, of the home, Mrs.
Virgie Woodward, of Franklin.
Mrs. Bill Sanders, of Route 3. and
Mis Ethel Fouts, of Winston
Salem.
