ED CRAWFORD : Staff Correspondent Exercises Held Bible school commencement exercises for the Watauga Baptist Church were held Sunday night at the church with 63 pupils receiv ing certificates. The different de partments presented a program of the work they had been doing. The Intermediate class, dressed in white robes, formed a cross on the stage and lit candles and sang a number, then marched outside singing, and sang several songs on the outside with their lighted candles making a cross In the dark. June Meeting In the absence of the president, Mrs. Jeter Higdon presided at the June meeting of the Ridge crest Home Demonstration Club at the home of Mrs. Jim Thomp son. Present were 10 members and three guests. Mrs. Florence S. Sherrill and Mrs. W. N. Cook, a guest, gave informal talks on their experiences at "Farm Home Week" in Raleigh this year. Mrs. Higdon. as home gardens leader, gave a report. Sue Crawford and Carol Wurst, senior members of the East Franklin 4-H Club, and members of the Holly Springs community, gave a demonstration on milk, as June is dairy month. They made a drink of crushed strawberries and milk, demonstrating one way of dressing up milk and served it to the group. Mrs. Sherrill fol lowed the girls' demoastration with more on the Importance of milk in the diet, and distributed several leaflets. Using recipes from one of the leaflets, she made a salad using soui- cream salad dress ing and a cheese sauce, which she served over squash. Each member was served a portion. The July meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Harvey Cabe. On Leave A/2c Dennis Mehaffey, of the U.S. Air Foorce, is spending a 30-day leave with his aunt, Miss j Emma Reid, and brother. Zeb Me haffey, and Mrs. Mehaffey. He | has been stationed in the Philip pines. but at the end of his leave will be stationed in Mississippi.
