Ramblin' Around Cullasaja and Higdonville MISS MARIE JENNINGS Staff Correspondent Plan Christinas B?i??r A Christinas program given by the Cullasaja 4-H Club provided a very interesting program for the Tuesday night (December 1) meeting of the Cullasaja Commun ity Development Organisation. A discussion was held about a bazaar to be held Saturday. De cember 12, in the lobby of the Nantabala Power and Light Com pany, beginning at 8 a m. Mem bers of the community are asked to donate baked goods, jellies or jams, or gift items to the bazaar. Anyone Interested in helping can leave the item at the home of Mrs. Prltchard Russell, Mrs. John Bryson, David Stanfield's store, or Mrs. C. T. Bryson, or take it to the bazaar early Saturday morn ing. The money made at the bazaar will be used to fix Christ mas baskets for shut-Ins. A committee meeting was set lor Sunday afternoon. December 6, at the home of Mrs. C. T. Bry son to discuss fixing Christmas baskets for shut-Ins In the com munity. At the committee meet ing. It was decided that that the group would meet at Mrs. Bryson's Tuesday night, December IS, and fix the baskets. Plans were made to erect a com munity Christmas scene on Sat urday, December 5, In Harry Womack's field. Mrs. Prltchard Russell won the door prize, which she donated to the community building fund. The 32 persons present enjoyed group singing and refreshments. School News Four communities in this sec tlon ? Higdonville, Pine Orove, Cullasaja and Bethel, are plann ing to organize basketball team* so they can have a tournament during the Christmas holidays. It will be a double elimination con test and will be sponsored by the eighth grade of Cullasaja School. The proceeds will be used to help pay for a trip the class is plann ing later in the year. The eighth grade sold the wal nuts they picked up one Saturday and got 12145 for their efforts. They are saving this money to use for their class trip. Buses are running once more after Monday s unexpected holiday because of the snow and bad road conditions. P.-TA News Mrs. Myrtle Keener's class pre sented a program entitled, "Christ mas Around the World", at Tues day night's P.-TA. meeting. Mrs. Orover Schafer appeared before the P.-TA. to ask for ? $25 membership to the N. C. Little Symphony. ? j Have Christmas Meeting The women of the Cullasaja Home Demonstration Club met last Friday at the home of Mrs. Pritchard Russell for their all-day Christmas meeting. In the morning, Mrs. Pritchard (Peek, family life leader, gave a program on family life entitled, "Faith is a Family Affair". The group enjoyed a covered dish lunch. After lunch. Mrs. Fred Palmer, foods leader, gave a demonstration and led a dis cussion on "Christmas Treats . Gifts were exchanged by the 12 members present. As a tribute to their home economics agent, Mrs. Florence S. Sherrlll, for her lead ership through the year, the two CARE packages. Club Hostess Mrs. Sammy Bryson, Jr.. will be hostess to the Higdonville Home Demonstration Club for its all-day Christmas meeting Thurs day, December 17. The Demonstration will be on "Christmas Treats". A covered dish lunch will be served. The clubwonqpn will exchange gifts and secret pals will be revealed. Sell Lord's Corn Approximately 15 attended last Thursday night's meeting of the Higdonville Community Develop ment Organization held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Sammy Bryson, Jr.. with Vic Teague, president, presiding. Among the business conducted was the sale of 100 bushels of corn raised by the community through Its Lord's Acre project. The corn was purchased by Fred Ruppen thal and Mrs. Alex Higdon. A project for the coming year discussed at the meeting was the staining of barns and outbuildings on each family's property in the community. Officers elected to serve this year are Vic Teague president; Fred Corbln, vice-president: Sid ney Clay, alternate vice-president; Mrs. Sammy Bryson, Jr., secretary; Mrs. Harry Moses, treasurer; Mrs. "Dude" Berry, reporter; and Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Clay, youth leaders. After the meeting, Mrs. Bryson served refreshments to the group'. Personal* Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Deal and two children, "Butchle" and Kar en. spent Thanksgiving week In Russellville. Ark., where they visited Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Hlg don and their daughter, Waynette. The Deals went out through Tennessee and returned by way of Mississippi and Alabama. While In Arkansas, they visited many places of interest with Mr. and Mrs. Hlgdon. Bragg Hlgdon, of Atlanta, visit ed his sister Mrs. Eva H. Keener, and her daughter Miss Lois Keen er, Sunday and returned to At lanta Monday afternoon. The Rev. Paul Sorrells. former pastor of Hlgdonvllle Baptist Church, attended Sunday school at Hlgdonvllle Sunday. There was a whole crowd of folks from up Cullasaja way over in Asheville last Saturday doing some Christmas shopping. Among those going were A. C. Moore, Miss Linda Moore, Miss Janice Thomp son and Mrs. C. T. Bryson; Mrs. Gordon Gibson, Miss Beverly Dal ton and Mrs. John Dalton; Mrs. Harry Womack and Mrs. Jack Womack; Mrs. Bob Estes and Mrs. Larry Estes; and Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Estes. Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Crisp and Miss Nancy Whittlng ton. James L. Teem went to Pontiac, Mich., last wek on a business trip. Mr. and Mrs. Doyle Painter, of Pontiac. Mich., left last Wednes day for home after visiting rela tives in Cullasaja and Cowee com munities. Mrs. Jesse Estes, who has been in Angel Hospital for treatment, is now at home. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Pope and two children, Ronnie and Linda, and Miss Wllma Jean Crisp of Gastonla, visited their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred N. Crisp, over the week end. Fireman 3/c Huel Sorrells. of the US. Navy, is spending a 20 day leave here with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Grover Sorrells. This is his first leave at home since last Easter. After his leave. Fire man Sorrells will report to his ship, the UBS. Caloosatchee, at Newport, R. X. Elmon Vanhook, of the DJ3. Air Force, spent a short leave here with his family and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Vanhook, prior to leaving for a year's duty in Korea. Mrs. Vanhook and their small daughter will live with Mr. Vanhook's parents while he Is overseas. Christmas Meeting The Rldgecrest Home Demon stration Club will hold Its all-day Christmas meeting Friday. Decem ber 18. at 10:30 a.m. at the home of Mrs. J. P. Shuford.
