Here And There In Ridgecrest And Watauga MRS. ED CRAWFORD Staff Correspondent Revival To Start Revival services will begin Sun day night, June 26. at the Ridge crest Baptist Church. In charge of the services each night will be the Rev. James Downs, of Canton. He is a nephew of Clyde Downs, of this community. Exercises Held Vacation Bible school com mencement exercises were held at the Watauga Baptist Church Sun day night. Sixty-three pupils re ceived certificates. The principal was Mrs. Guy Clouse. Commencement exercises for the Ridgecrest Baptist Church Vaca tion Bible School will be held Saturday night, June 25, at 8 o'clock. They also visited her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. BUI Dryman, of Franklin. Spending Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Wykle were Mr. and Mrs. Pierce Hall and children, of Jackson County. Also vtsitlng them Sunday was John Wykle, of Greenville, S. C. Going sightseeing Sunday through the Smokies were Mrs. George Raby and daughter, Betty, and Mrs. Parker Raby and daugh ter, Annette. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Bailey, of Hazelwood, visited Mr. and Mrs. Prank Bailey Sunday. A/lc Dennis Mehaffey and friend, James Peterson, whose home is in Frankfurt, Ky? both of the U.S. Air Force stationed at Charleston, 8. C., were week end guests of Miss Emma Reid. Also visiting Miss Reld Sunday afternoon were Mrs. R. L. Hlgdon and Miss Clara Hlgdon, of Sylva. Going sightseeing to Tallulah Falls, Oa., Sunday afternoon were Mrs. Elsie Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Smith, G. C. Smith, and Howell Smith. Mrs. Kathryn Jacobs and chil dren, of Sylva, visited Mr. and Mrs. John Smith Sunday after noon. Visiting Mrs. Jess Thompson and family this week are Mr. and Mrs. George Thompson and family, of Winston-Salem. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Fouts, of Brevard, spent a few days at home this week. Visiting Mr. and Mrs. Jud Mor gan Saturday were Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Parker, of Canton, Mrs. Robert Gore and son, Grady, of Ashevllle, Mrs. Lee West, of Mi ami, Fla., and Mr. and Mrs. George Clayton, Jr., and daughter, Mary Sue, of Sylva. Bradley, of Franklin, recently completed eight weeks of military police training at The Provost Marshal General's School, Fort Gordon, Oa. Bradley reeeived instruction in 6elf defense, traffic control, and the basic procedures of civil and military law. He entered the Army last Jan uary and completed basic combat training at Fort Be lining, Ga. Bradley was graduated from Franklin High School in 1955 an<l was a clerk for Carolina Pharmacy before entering the Army. the hospital recovering from burns ecelved from a gasoline fire acci dent. He is the son of Mrs. Lucille Pitts. They also visited Mrs. J. P. Hester. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Morgan and children accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Clint Morgan and Mr. and Mrs. Jr. Morgan and children, of Webster, on a camping trip to Cane Creek In Jackson County. Mrs. Lester McMahan and Mrs. Frank Morgan and children, Betty Jean and Terry, visited in Whit tier and Barker's Creek Friday and spent the night in Bryson City with Mrs. Morgan's mother, Mrs. L. E. Campbell. Mrs. Morgan and Betty Jean took Mrs. Camp bell to Swannanoa to visit her husband, Mr. Campbell, who was in the hospital there. Mrs. Lester McMahan. who has been visiting the John Tippetts and Frank Morgans and other relatives here the past two weeks, left Sunday to return to Barring ton. Wash. She flew from Knox ville, Tenn. This mimeographed newspaper, going Into Its ninth year of publi cation. is published during the summer months for a season of 13 weeks. This year the issues will run from June 18 to September 1. Mrs. Mary Summer Norman is editor this summer for the eighth year. She will be assisted by Miss Tina Harbison, rising senior at Highlands High School, and Miss Ella Cabe, a junior at Western Carolina College. Ronnie Reese will work part-time for the paper.
