We are all glad to have Rev. L. H. Joy
ner and Mrs. Joyner back again. They
with ther interesting family are a helpful
addition to our town.
Mr. E. Frank Kelly, of Baltimore, passed
through town last week for a few days
visit to his old home at Union, where once
flourished Union Home School, taught by
his father. Prof. J. E. Kelly.
Misses Sacksie Muse, Lula McPherson
and Miss Ethel Dalrymple, of Carthage,
were seopping in Qaleigh last week.
The Cameron people gave Mr. J. R. Rid
dell and sister, Miss Bettie. a severe pound
ing last week.
Misses Fay and Mamie Metthews of
White Hill, stepped over Sunday with Mr.
and Mrs. J. J. Irvin, returning from a visit
to relatives at Vass.
Mrs. W. 0. Fraiser, of Baird, Texas, ar
rived Sunday for a visit to relatives in
Moore and adjoining counties, while in
Cameron, she will be the house guest of
Mrs. E. M. Borst.
Mr. and Mrs. Archie McDugald and Mrs.
T. 0. McEwen, came up from Hamlet Sun
day afternoon to call upon Mr. and Mrs.
H. D. Talty.
Mr. and Mrs. T. C. Gaddy and family
spent Sunday afternoon with Mr. and Mrs.
Clyde Gaddy at Sanford.
Mrs. AddieqGraham and daughter Miss
Bertie, have rented rooms in the new home
of Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Irvin on McPherson
street.
Mrs. Margaret McLean on Route 2, re
turned Tuesday from a visit to her daugh
ter, Mrs. Ayer, of Oak City.
Mr. John McLaughlin and sister, Miss
Cassie, spent Sunday with she Misses
Arnold.
Miss Bettie McLaughlin, of Carthage,
who came down Saturday to attend the
Teachers meeting, spending the night with
Miss Ada McNeill.
Miss Lula McPherson will leave at an
early aate to visit her sister, Mrs. W. G.
Ferguson at Rose Claire, 111.
Mr. R. E. Bryan on Route 2, has pur-
chasea from Mr. J. E. Eads, the attractive
home an Route 1, that once belonged to
Mr. Ed. Thompson, of Vass. When it
comes to dealing in real estate Mr. Bryant
is equal to Mr. H. A. Matthews.
Mrs. Georgie Matthews made a business
trip to Sanford last week.
Miss Lady Mary Loving, who accepted
a position in the postoflfice at Pinehurst
left Monday to begin her work.
Misses Mabel Muse and Effie Gilchrist,
who are teaching at Oak Grove, came
home for the w-eek-end.
Mr. John Cox who lived in the neighbor
hood, of White Hill Ohurch, died recently
from an attack of acute indigestion. He
leaves a widow and two daughters.
There was a large crowd at the Presby
terian Church Sunday morning' to hear
Rev. M. D. McNeill who preached a fine
sermon from the subject “Companionship
with Christ.”
Miss Kate Harrington left last week fur
Charlotte, where she is locatea at trained
nurse. '
Mr. Edgar Petty, son of our townsman,
Mr. H. T. Petty, has been appointed to the
position of auditor for the Interstate Com
merce Commission for U. S. Guvernment
work. Mr. Petty passea successfully the
required examination and goes to Chatta
nooga, Tenn.. for work at a salary of $4,009
per year.
Speaking of pounding, Mrs. Addie Allen
on Route 2, pounded tne corresponcent
with several puunas of fresn pork sausage
last week that are greatiy enjoyed and
appreciated.
Mr. J. C. Hardy and Miss Lima Doss
were quietly married at the home of the
bride in Cameron on Thursday evening,
Dec. 2nd, Rev. L. H. Joyner officiating.
Mr. Hardy has recently purchased the
place known as the “John Muse home,”
at Walnut Grove; and where, he with Mrs.
Hardy, will make their home. Since mov
ing to Cameron last Christmas Mr. and
Mrs. Doss have given two of their daugh
ters in marriage.
Mr. J. J. Irvin has been all smiles since
eating that mee-noo. Thanksgiving day.
Miss Lula McPherson was a guest last
week at a birthday party given in honor
of Miss Ethel Dalrymple, of Carthage. She
was also present at a reception of a latter
date given by her aunt, Mrs. J. P. Monroe,
of Sanford, in honor of Mrs. Bickett.
Miss Mjrrtle Phillips, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. J. E. Phillips, who for the past
few^ years had been engaged in war work,
at Portsmouth, Va., was married on Nov.
27th, to Mr. H. E. Spiers, of Portsmouth,
Va. The marriage took place in the study
of the pastor of the first Presbyterian
Church, of Portsmouth, in the presence of
a few friends. The groom is a machinist
in Portsmouth. They are now housekeep
ing ai 425 Armstrong street. Mrs. Spiers
is remembered in Cameron as a beautiful
and loveable girl. We wish her happi
ness, peace and prosperity throughout her
married life.
