Jackson Springs Miss Thelma Ellis’ music class will give a recital on Saturday night, Feb. 5th at the High School building. Miss Ellis is a very efficient teacher. There will be no admittance fee, but there will^ a box sup per afterward. The proceeds from the supper will go toward the light fund for the dormitory and school building. The snow staid with us for a few days. We wonder how many farmers made use of their time by rerding and " planing the 1921 mark ahead, and how many of their wives and daughters thought of their fancy work, etc., that they could exhibit at the 1921 Sand Hill Fair. It is up to the people to make it better, and it is past time for us to begin planing for our exhibits. We want to put Moore county and the Sand Hills on the map by having a booth at the State Fair this fall. There is no question as to whether we can do it. We have the material and must take advantage and win first prize. Don’t forget the commun ity booths at the Sand Hill Fair. Rev. R. G. Matheson was installed as pastor of the Presbyterian Church Sunday afternoon. Rev. Matheson preached at Culdee and West End Churches and with appointments at Samarand Manor twice a month. Mr. Matheson comes to us from Enoree Presbytery, S. C. During the short time Mr. Matheson and family have been here they have made many friends and their great work is looked forward to. The Derby Memorial boys basket ball team journeyed to Candor Tuesday and added another victory to their list. Can dor started the game with a rush and soon had a lead of 10 points, but the Derby boys fighting spirit arose and they started playing as one and with their fast and accurate passing won the game. Roads are going to bo rough unless they get the needed attention immediately. If Gov. Morrison has his way we will have roads as good as any city streets. He is a good road advocate we are proud to say. But will the income tax of the state take care of the interest of the bond issue. We are needing roads that will not be so ex pensive to keep up as our old roads are proving to be. We are wondering how many of the farmers are in shape to trade a bale of cotton to the Fertilizer Companies for a ton of guano. The prices on fertilizers are shocking when the merchants have cut their prices. High fertilizer prices means that the farmer must plant cow peas and other soil improving crops to keep the fer tility-of the soil up. If not it means worn out farms of years gone by. Now our farm lands are too valuable to rob them and give them nothing in return for their bounteous crops harvested. Jiist this side of the new road that leads to Southern Pines the company has commenced its office build- ing. This is the start of the big job that will be going on for years, and which will re sult in a settlement that will connect up Southern Pines, Manly, Edgemoore, Knoll- wood and Pinehurst. That office building will be an interesting land mark some of these days, and it will not be long until the memory of it as a beginning will be as interesting as the memory of the beginning at Southern Pines and Pinehurst, for from this small start will spring a development that will %■ be as important as either of the older ones. ninmiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiHHiiiiiiHiiiiiiiiiii \
