McLean in Cameron, Sunday. Mrs. D. A. McLauchlin passed a part of this week with her mother, Mrs. C. J. Gillis, of Raeford. Mrs. L. J. Taylor, of Carthage, were visitors in Vass Wednesday. Mr. W. H. Keith and family passed Sunday with relatives on Cameron route 1. Mr. Scott, agricultural agent of Seaboard Air Line, was in Vass Thursday. Miss Gladys Bundy and Master Joe Bundy, of Raleigh, were the week-end guests of their sister, Mrs. A. G. Edwards. Misses Ila and Lula Evans sj)ent Saturday night with Misses Sallie Thompson and Evelyn Thomas on Cameron route 1. Rev. M. D. McNeill filled his regu lar appointment at the Presbyterian church last Sunday morning. He was accompanied by Mrs. McNeill. Mr. W. D. Smith, Mesdames R. L. Oldham and D. C. McGill attended the funeral of Miss Mary Ann Mc Neill at Cypress, Monday. Misses Agnes Smith and Annie Mc Gill called on Miss Vivian Matthews at the Carolina Central Hospital last Friday afternoon. Mr. G. H. Russell, candidate for the Democratic nomination for solicitor of the 13th judicial district, was in Vass Wednesday. The boys^ basket ball team went to Jonesboro last Friday afternoon for a game with the school team there but had to play the town team and was defeated. There will be a call meeting of the Vass Community Club tonight (Fri day) at ^:30. The question of joining in with other communities for em ploying a recreational director will be discussed. On Tuesday afternoon Mr. Peyton, general superintendent of this division of the S. A. L. railway met with the mayor of the town, Mr. W. D. Mat thews, and the beautifying commit tee of the Vass Community Club for a discussion on the subject of plant ing trees, shrubs, vines and flowers along the right of way and around the station. The move contemplated by the committee was very satisfac torily received by Mr. Peyton and the committee, which is composed of Mesdames J. R. Thomas, C. J. Temple, and H. A. Borst, decided to look into the matter further and see just what is to be done before work is started. This plan will be a great help to the appearance of the town, but your help and co-operation is needed. ‘FROM TREE TO TRADE” “From Tree to Trade,” the picture which the Pinehurst Lumber Yards of Pinehurst is having Miss McQueen show in this county was shown here Tuesday night. This picture shows every detail of the manufacture of lumber from the time the tree is cut in the forest, hauled to the mill, saw ed into lumber, dressed and further prepared for trade. Although this may seem very real and commonplace to some who have seen this process, we must remember that many people old and young, even in this community, have never had a chance to see any of this done in reality and should appreciate the opportunity of viewing such a natural picthire.
