CAMERON NEWS In the sick room of M. McL. Mc- Keithen, on Monday night, May 8th, Miss Fay Ritchie, teacher in the Cameron graded school, and Mr. Leighton B. McKeithen were united in marriage. Rev. M. D. McNeill offi ciating. ^ Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Gaddy ard chil dren, of Sanford, spent the week end with Mr. and Mrs. T. C. Gaddy. Mr. and Mrs. D. A. McLauchlin, of Vass, Mrs. Mary McLauchlin, of Lo belia, called, Sunday, at the homes of Rev M. D. McNeill and Mr. M. McL. McKeithen. Glad to report Mr. Mc Keithen better, and why not, with a new, sweet, and attractive daughter- in-law. Miss Myrtle Leslie, of Vass, was the guest of Miss Loula Rogers, Mon day night. In his sermon, Sunday, to the gradu ating class. Rev. M. D. McNeill said they might have all the beauty, all the wealth, culture and refinement, but without purity and goodness of heart it meant nothing. I have seen instances where some people tried to make other think they were very refined and cultured by showing they were ill bred. The Idle Hour theatre had a full house Saturday night. Two comedies and a western feature picture, “Texas Belle,” the female sheriff. Misses Minnie and Bonnie Muse are home from teaching at Roberdell high school. Dr. and Mrs. J. D. Muse, of Hender son, spent the week-end with Mrs. Loula Muse and family. Miss Margaret Thomas who has been seriously ill at Rex Hospital, Raleigh, came home Saturday, accom panied by a trained nurse, who re mains in attendance. Mr. J. B. Thomas, of Chatham, is visiting Mr. R. C. Thomas. Miss Ha Douglas on route 1 is visit ing this week at Vass. Miss Jewell Hemphill spent Tues day in Carthage. Mr. T. J. Johnson on route 1 was in town last week, rejoicing over the ar rival of a new grandson, born to Mr. and Mrs. Carl Cameron on route 2. Mrs. R. A. Smith, of Niagara, was the guest of the correspondent, Sun day. Mr. W. M. Blue, of Raeford and daughter, Marie, with Misses Rosa, Nell and Vera Cox, of Raeford, were guests, Saturday, at the home of the correspondent. Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Burt, Misses Mary Mag Campbell and Jane Ewing, of Biscoe, were callers, Simday after noon, at the home of the correspon dent. Mrs. Janie Muse returned, Monday, from a week-end visit to her sister, Mrs. Mag Cameron on route 1. On his way to Carthage Monday, Mr. J. A. Phillips received the infor mation of a still being found and re ported on his farm over on route 2. Learning of the location he went to it and found a still of immense size, with about a thousand gallons of beer. He proceeded to Carthage and reported to sheriff Blue and together they returned, destroyed the still and gave the beer to Mother Earth. Mr, Phillips says no charges to the coun ty for the good work done in de molishing. The distillers are still at large. Mr. Cameron McLean and little daughter, Margaret, of Mississippi, are visiting Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Mc Lean. Mr. Cameron McLean is re cently bereaved of his wife who pass ed away, leaving the little daughter. The following is an extract from a letter to J. McN. Johnson of Aber deen, written from Edinburg, Scot land: “IVe been ’lang o' comin with my thanks for The Pilot. The story is good, the chapters are short but sweet. ‘Tallyrand* has a heart as big and a mind as broad as the author. I also enjoyed other parts of The Pilot especially the four line verse in the Cameron News, April 14th. Did you read it? Will be looking for the next issue.” Messrs. H. P. McPherson and son J. A. McPherson attended the barbe cue at the mid-winter boating and canoeing club at Buie's Bridge on the Lumbee River, given by the boards of county commissioners, roads commis sioners, and county attorneys of Moore, Hoke, Scotland and Richmond. Mr.. Tom Jones and sister, Miss May, formerly of Cameron, but now of Fayetteville, were in town this week greeting old friends who were delighted to see them looking young and prosperous. While here they were the guests of Mr, and Mrs. C. C. Jones, of Edgewood. ■ The correspondent is the receipient of some fine white head cabbage grown this year by Mr. and Mrs. Brown Harrington on route 2. A head on collision, cars smashed, and two men seriously if not fatally injured; was the result of bad com licker and gasoline, Sunday, two miles south of Cameron. Jack R. Adams, principal of Wakelon high school, was the owner of the smashed car, and miraculously escaped death, when the boozers ran into him. Commencement week in Cameron. / This letter is mailed on Tuesday eve ning before the exercises are finished. Sunday morning the baccalureate sermon was preached at the Presby terian church by Rev. M. D. McNeill, who took for his subject “Purity of Heart,” based on the sermon on the mount. Text: Blessed are the Pure in Heart, for they shall see God.” A sermon beautiful in expression, sub lime in thought. A fervent prayer was offered by Rev. 0. B. Mitchell. Monday afternoon a beautiful op eretta entitled “Cinderella in Flower Land,” and the Faries May Day was beautifully and effectively carried out by the pupils in the primary and ad vance grades. Tuesday night the seniors held their graduating exer cises. Graduates: Miss Sadie Phil lips, Mattie Snow, Bessie McDonald. Miss Lula McPherson, assistant in the dental clinics, and bookkeeper at Kenilworth Hospital at Asheville, has recently had an honor conferred upon her being made president of the Y. W. C. A.
