Thompson went to San ford last Saturday. Mr. Richard Griffin, of Hamlet, spent Tuesday at his home here. Messrs. Neill M. McKeithen and W. D. Matthews were in Carthage, Mon day. Mr. W. W. Wiggins, of Coats, is here this week relieving Mr. Riden- hour, our popular druggist. Mr. N. J. Muse, chairman of the Board of Elections, was in Vass, Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. D. A. Smith and Miss Agnes Smith made a trip to South ern Pines last Saturday afternoon. Mrs. Lula Stevens, of Lakeview, spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Muse. Mr. R. A. Smith and Miss Mamie Smith, of Niagara, were in Vass one day this week. Mr. Neill Smith came home from State College, Saturday, to spend the summer vacation. Mr. D. G. Ridenhour went to Smith- field, Tuesday, to attend the funeral of his father-in-law, Mr. Parrish. Miss Margaret Keith attended com mencement exercises at Davidson Col lege this week. Two of the biggest problems of the day are getting food into Russia and drink into the United States. Mr. Arthur Thompson, of Lakeview, spent the week-end with friends in Vass. Once upon a time you could pick up a newspaper without reading where some husband or wife had shot each other. Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Wallace passed Tuesday night with Mrs. Wallace’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Tyson. More than one man can tell you that his honeymoon was over the minute he pulled out his chewing to bacco. Mr. John Keith left, last Friday, for Davidson College to attend the commencement exercises. Mr. C. M. McLean and little daugh ter, Margaret, visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. N. N. iJfcLean on Mon day. Mr. and Mjs. C. L. Tyson and Mrs. Mamie Dixon were called from Ral eigh, Tuesday, on account of the death of little J. Mac Tyson. Miss Hattie Smith left Wednesday evening for Raeford, after a visit to her mother, Mrs. H. A. Smith, in Up per Hoke. The lamentable fatal accident on Tuesday, in which the little Tyson boy was run over by an automobile, an illustration of what may be expected to be followed by a series, if that locality should be made a part of the new highway through town. And yet there can be found some who think such a route more desira ble than one on whidi there is a far less number of pedestrians, and at no ^ime a congesti-oe or accumulation of teams and automobiles. If Jack Dempsey wants to do some thing really worth while, let him bring Grover Bergdoll back with him when he corues from Germany back to tois' nativp land. ' SAD ACCIDENT On Tuesday morning about nine o clock, little J. Mac Tyson, the five year old son of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Tyson, was run over and instantly killed by an automobile driven by Mr. D. G. Ridenhour. The accident oc- cured across the street from Mc Keithen & Co’s store. Upon seeing the little boy cross the street in front of the approaching car, Mr. Ridenhour stopped the car, and just as the car started moving again, J. Mac tried to recross the road and was struck. The accident was unavoidable and all who witnessed the tragedy declared that everything possible was done' to avoid it. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. 0. B. Mitchell, pastor of the Baptist church, and Rev. M. D. Mc Neill, pastor of the Presbyterian church, at eleven o’clock, Wednesday morning with interment at Ephesus cemetery, near White Hill. CYPRESS CREEK NEWS Mr. Daniel Blue, of Raeford, visited Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Stuart, Sunday. Mr. J. S. Cameron was in Lilling- ton, Thursday of last week. Mr. and Mrs. Cameron Johnson and family spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Neill Stuart. Mr. E. L. Autrey was the guest of Miss Vera Buie, Sunday evening. Messrs. Lattie Hall and Irvin Glo ver, of Fayetteville, were the guests of Misses Bertie and Emily Cameron, Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Cameron were motoring around in their new Ford, Sunday p. m. The Cypress Sunday School is im proving rapidly with lots of new members coming in every Sunday. Mr. D. H. Clark was the guest of Miss Bertie Cameron, Sunday night.
