Mr. Alvin Laubscher went to Pine hurst Tuesday night to see “Deacon Dubbs.” Miss Lizzie Jones, bookkeeper for Beasley Motor Company, has returned from a visit to her people in Fuquay. Miss Jewell Edwards has returned 10 Guilford College after spending the Easter holidays at home. Mr. \V. H. Keith and family spent Sunday at the home of his father, Mr. A. J. Keith, on Cameron route one. The Keith family had a reunion that day, all of the children being present except one. Mrs. 0. M. Spurlin has returned to her home in Sharon, S. C., after a visit to her parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. S. Ed wards. Mr. V. L. Wilson, of Monroe, spent one day last week with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Wilson. Messrs. J. R. Thomas and J. Elvey Thomas, of Raleigh, spent Sunday with home folks. Miss Lydia Auman spent Easter in Star. Messrs. W. D. Smith and N. M. Smith and Misses Margaret Keith and Clyde Fisher motored to Southern Pines Monday. Little Miss Mary Spencer Harring ton, the most charming guest at Hotel Vass, went to Carthage Sun day afternoon, accompanied by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Harring ton. Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Smith visited Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Norton, near Rae- ford, Sunday. Messrs. Dan Smith, Neill Smith, Eugene Keith, Frank Byrd, Duncan McGill and Frederick Taylor attended thp Carolina-Trinity ball game at Dur ham Saturday. Miss Margaret Thomas, Mrs. Julia McDouuald and little granddaughter, Margaret McDougald, and Mrs. H. D. T*'' of Cameron, were in town, Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Mr. Arthur Thompson made a busi ness trip to Sanford Monday. Mr. Wade Collins, of Cameron, visited fiiends in town Sunday. Miss Clyde Fisher, of Saint Pauls, came Sunday to visit Miss Margaret Keith. Mr. McQueen Bailey, county sur veyor, was in town a part of this week, surveying the Bynum land ^hich is to be sold here on May 10th. . Mr. and Mrs. D. A. Mrs. Mollie Graham, of Cameron route one, spent Sunday at the home of her son, Mr. W. B. Graham. Messrs. N. M. Smith and Frank Byrd returned to State College on Wednesday, after spending a few days at home. J; S. McLauchlin and Mr. Kelly, 01 the Union church, passed through town Wednesday enroute to Raeford to attend the Presbytery. Friends in town have received invi- tetions to the graduating recital of Miss Lois Sanford, expression stu dent at Louisburg College, which will take place next Tuesday evening. The Easter program given by chil dren of the Methodist Sunday School was greatly enjoyed by a large au dience. The church was beautifully decorated with pines, dogwood, East er lilies and other spring flowers. Perhaps the most effective number on the program was an exercise by eight boys, who erected a beautiful white temple with Christ and Faith as the Foundation and Service, Praise, Joy, and Love as the other parts of the building. The program was gotten up by Mrs. W. B. Graham, who is untir ing in her work with the little folks. The Presbyterian children enjoyed an egg hunt on the church grounds Monday niorning. That afternoon the Methodist children with some in vited guests from the Baptist Sunday School assembled at the Methodist church for their annual Easter fun. An Easter egg hunt is second only to a Christmas tree with the Vass kid dies, and it is worth a great deal to see their happy faces. The Deacon Dubbs party gave their play in Pinehurst Tuesday evening, and after paying the Parent-Teacaers Association their quota, had thirty- one dollars left. After the play, a de lightful reception was held at the home of Mr. J. B. Cameron, in honor of the Vass people. Sandwiches and coffee were served by the hostess and Misses Rachel and Emsiine Ha ir.a. The Methodist Missionary Circles held their regular meetings Tuesday afternoon. Number one met at the home of Mrs. H. A. Borst. Some time ago each member had been given fif ty cents, which she was to r.se in mak ing more money for the circle. At the meeting, each one reported on how she had invested her “talent,”’ and it was found that not one had been buried. Delicious refreshments were served by the hostess. Circle two met at the home of Mrs. A. K. Thompson, with twelve members in attendance. Mrs. E. B. Thompson was able to attend for the first time, and the other members were espe cially glad to have her present. Aft er the business session, partners were found for a word building contest in which Mrs. W. D. Matthews and Mrs. S. R. Smith were found to be master builders. They were awarded attrac tive Easter tokens as prizes. Re freshments were served by the hos tess, assisted by Mrs. VV. C. Leslie. Mrs. E. B. Thompson mvited the cir cle to meet with her next month. The Woman's Club will hold its regular meeting at the school build ing next Thursday, as the chairs from the club room are at the w^arehouse. A program entirely different from the ones given in the past has been planned, and those who fail to attend will miss something good. Messrs. J. W. Beasley, W. E. York, Clyde and Merwyn Cox motored to Stuart, Va., last week. Mrs. D. W. McNeill and Miss Ada McNeill, of Cameron, were in town Monday. ^ t Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Thomas, Mr. J. E. Thomas, Miss Mildred and J. R., Jr., motored to Southern Pines Sat urday night to visit Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Shaw. , Mr. Clarence Byrd, third trick op erator here for some time, has gone to Lilesville to work. Mr. Rosier is third trick man here now. Mr. and Mrs. O. W. Everyone interested in the dewberry industry and its problems are urged to attend. MANLEY Misses Sauage and Birch, of Ashe- ley Heights, spent a few days with Miss Emma Wilson. Mrs. V. T. Cheatham and daughter, Edna, spent Easter with relatives in Wilson. Miss Mattie Wilson returned to Raleigh Sunday night, after visiting relatives here. Mrs. R. E. Patterson and children, Sarah, Mary Alice, Joseph and Re becca, visited Mrs. A. J. Keith, of Cameron route one, Sunday. Mrs. W. A. Thomas gave her Sun day School class a picnic and Easter egg hunt Monday afternoon. A good time was enjoyed by all. Services will be held by Rev. M. D. McNeill Sunday morning, April 27, 1924, at 11:00 o’clock. Christian En deavor at 7:30 o’clock. Everyone is cordially invited to come. NOTICE There will be heavy artillery firing on all that portion of the Fort Bragg Reservation west of the Raeford-Vass road beginning Monday, April 28th, and continuing every day except Sun days throughout the month of May.
