Mr. and Mrs. Donald McDonald, of Cameron, were in town Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Scarboro, of Hoffman, were visitors in Carthage Thursday. Mrs. E. P. Billups has returned to her home at Rutherford College after fipending two weeks with her mother, Mrs. Mollie Person. Miss Mary Currie and Mrs. W. H. Currie spent the past week-end in Gastonia with Mrs. Currie’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Waltz. Mrs. R. G. Wallace was hostess to a few of her friends Friday evening Those present were Dr. and Mrs. Larkin, Mr. and Mrs. Colin Spencer, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Currie, Miss Mary Currie, Annie Howell, Mary Moore, Mr. McNair Smith and E. H. Morton. W. D. Matthews was in town Fri day. Mrs. E. T. McKeithen, Mrs. R. M. Caldwell, Mrs. W. T. Huntley and Mrs. Jackson, of Aberdeen, were in town Friday. Mrs. Walter Branson was called to Pittsboro Sunday on account of the illness and death of her brother, Mr. Henry Harris. We are glad to report Jim Morgan much improved after a brief illness. Mrs. N. L. Barrett spent Saturday in Raleigh. Mr. J. McN. Johnson and Mr. T. B. Wilder, of Aberdeen were in town Monday. We were sorry indeed to hear of the death at Red Springs of W, J. Johnson. He was bom and reared live miles east of Carthage. He was popular and a good business man who accumulated much proi|erty. Hie wife and two daughters, Mrs. Sevie Highsmith and Mrs. Brooks, both of Fayetteville, survive to mourn his loss. The Woman^s Missionary Society, of the Methodist church, met Monday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Flora Black, with 12 members present. The Literary Department of the Woman’s Club met in the club room on Friday afternoon, the 13th. Some very interesting papers were read on Longfellow. Several readings were given by Mrs. W. H. Currie. Mrs. T. B. Tyson attended a bridge party at the Hollywood Inn Monday. Mr. I. F. Chandler, of Southern Pines, was in town Tuesday. Miss Myrtie Clemer, of Hemp spent Tuesday in town. Mr. and Mrs. R. N. Page, Jr., of Southern Pines, spent Sunday with Mrs. Page’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Graves. Mrs. C. T. Grier is spending a few days in Sanford this week with Mrs. W. G. Brown.
