J.; Alvin M. Williams, East Orange, N. J.; Miss Lucy S. MacDonald and Miss Isabel A. Schmitt, Rochester, N. Y.; and J. C. Geddes, Cleveland, O. evening. Twenty persons were entered In the first v/eekly putting tournament held on The Pine Needles putting course Wednesday. First place in the wo men's event was taken by Mrs. Clif ford Sloan of Manhasset, L. I. Alvin M. Williams of Montclair, N. J., won the men’s prize. Mrs. Dorsey G. Stutz entertained her bi'idge club Monday afternoon at the Southern Pines Country Club. Mr. and Mrs. Almet Jehks enter tained Ml-, and Mrs. Verner Z. Reed, Jr., of Newport, R. I., and Pinehurst at dinner Wednesday evening. The Pine Dodgers held their second meeting of the season at the Southern Pines Counti-y Club Tuesday, with luncheon following an 18-hole "hid den twelve” tournament which was won by Migs Elizabeth Rountree and Mrs. Norman Shenk. Dr. and Mrs. H. H. Fellows of Ma plewood, N. J., who are stopping at the Park View, are enjoying golf dally at the Country Club. Others at the Park View include Mr. and Mrs. F. S. Caulkins and Mrs. F. P. Caulklns of White Plains, N. Y., V. T. Spang ler and Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Park er or' Forest Hills, Long Island, and Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Brooks of Syra cuse, N. Y. Goi'don Mendelssohn of Millbrook, N. Y., plans to arrive soon for a month in the Sandhills, bringing sev eral horses for the fox and drag hunt ing. Mrs. John R. Drexel entertained a small group at dinner Wednesday evening, after which they attended “The Great Waltz” at the Southern Pines Theatre. Among those golfing at the Coun try Club Tuesday were Mr. and Mrs. P. S. P. Goddard of Brooklyn, N. Y., Mr. and Mrs. Harold Fellows of Ma plewood, N. J., J. M McIntosh of La Jolla, Cal, and J. D. Cadar of Brook lyn. Mr. and Mrs. J. Coburn Musser re turned to New York Sunday night after spending several days with Mrs. J. H. Andrews. Miss Francis Schwartz is spending a few days in New York. Mr. and Mrs- Frederick H. Burke entertained Wednesday at dinner at their home on Olive Drive. Mr. and Mrs. John J. Fitzgerald have returned to the Mld-Plnes Club after spending th# summer at Man chester, Mass. Miss Ruth Thompson spent Monday with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Carl Thompson. Mr. and Mrs. James Boyd returned this week after spending the summer In Maine and New York. Mr. and Mrs. B. L. Jessup and son of Concord spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs- J. T. Overton.
