Temple Was Prominent Banker and Business Man.— Died Last Tuesdaj' T'uneral services were held last 'Thursday morning- in Lake View, S. C., for L. W. Temple, banker, capl. talist, extensive real estate owner, outstanding citizen and business man, ■who died suddenly on Tuesday, Mr. Temple, father of Mrs. Roy Grinnell •of Southern Pines, had spent the day before looking over his proper, ties at Myrtle Beach and when he retired that night he appeared to be Jn his usual good health. Mr. Temple waa born in Wake coimty, near Raleigh, on March 3, 1866, and passed his 71st birthday Jaat March. He located in Lake View, then Pages Mills, 50 years age, and shortly afterwards entered the mer_ cantile business. For many years he conducted a large and successful lien business. Later he retired from the lien bus. iness and devoted his time to farm, ing, fertilizers and cotton. He also became interested in real estate, ahd in addition to his extensive holdings in Dillon county, S. C., he had ac quired much property at Myrtle Beach, Wrightsville Beach, Raleigh, Durham, Kinston and other places. Although Mr. Temple had long since passed the age when most men seek retirement and relaxation from the cares and responsibilities of an active and successful life, his bound, less energy and vigorous mind re. mained with him tlil the last and his interest in the world and the af. fairs of mankind never diminished. Mr. Temple was an eminently sue- cessful man. His judgment was £ound and his advice was sought on many matters by many m«n. He was at one time president of the Bank of Lake View' and at the time of his death was one of the receivers of the bank. He organized and was president of the Lake View Deposi. with us in them. And now and then, the Baptist church. In 1889 Mr. Temple was married to Miss Alice Page, daughter of the late Capt. Joe Page and Mary Ann Ford Page of Lake View. He is sur. vived b/ hia widow and the following children: Joe P. Temple, Lake View; Mrs. W. E. Price, Oklahoma City; Averitte R. Temple, New Orleans; Mrs. L. B. Daniel, New Bern, N. C.; Miss Alimae Temple, Lake View; Dr. L. Wade Temple, Lake View; Mrs. Hunter Huss, Gastonia, N. C.; Mrs. Roy Grinnell, Southern Pines, N. C.; Mi^s Lyall Temple, Washington, D. C. Surviving are fifteen grandchil. dren. The funeral, held at the First Bap tist Church with interment following at Lake View Cemetery, was attend. t‘d by many friends and former bus iness associates from the Carolintis, Georgia, Florida and Tennessee. The Week in Carthage MuhIc Club Meets Mrs, H. Lee Thomas charmingly ntertained the Carthage Music Club ast Friday afternoon. The program vas centered around the composer, 3harminade. Mrs. II. F. Seawell read a most interesting paper on the com- joser’s life. Mrs. M. G. Dalrymple and Mrs. George Thomas sang two vocal selections. A special feature of the evening was an original com. oosition on the composer McDowell, which was read by the writer. Miss Anne McCree Roberts of Queens- Chicora. The composition was written during Miss Robert’s first year at the college. She is now a senior. Special guests of Mrs. Thomas were Miss Anne McCree Roberts and Miss Meade Seawell. Mrs. Grier Hostess Mrs. Charles T. Grier entertained a number of her friends on Thursday afternoon. Bridge was played at six tables. High score prize was won by Mrs. U. L. Spence, visitor’s prize went to Mrs. Eldon Adams and out. of.town guest prize to Mrs. M. J. McPhail of Sanford. The hostess was assisted by Mrs. G. C. Graves, Jr., and Mrs. Margaret Penn in serving refreshments. “Howling Success” The Womanless Wedding sponsored by the Parent.Teacher Association on Tuesday evening was a howling success. The auditorium was full of fun-loving people who thoroughly en joyed the wedding. The proceeds will be used for the school lunch fund. Butler, aged 77 years, died in his home at Iowa avenue and Leak street, Southern Pines last Sunday. Fimeral services were held in the Baptist church at Parkton at 31:00 o’clock Monday morning. Mr. Butler, a retired builder re. siding in Southern Pines for the past two years, was born in Cumberland county, the son of Miles Butler, He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Lon. nle Butler; a son, J.
