March 14th, at 3:00 and 8:30 p. m.,
starring Errol Flynn, with Brenda
Marshall, Ralph Bellamy, Alan Hale,
Allen Jenkins, Lucile Watson, Grant
Mitchell and a host of others. Here
is a mystery-comedy that, in its own
way, seems likely to have the succes

did, with the result that a series may
be due. “Footsteps In The Dark" is
neat combination of smart comedy
and a real murder my.stery.

fare; and more important, an oppor.
tunity to perform a much-needed pub-
<c service. Since the authors and ac
tors were volunteering their efforts,
CBS assumed all costs of produc
tion. music and network facilities.
A committee was organized with
Robert E. Sherwood representing the
vriters; Burgess Meredith, represent
ing the actors; W. B. Lewis, vice-
president In charge of programs for
CBS, representing radio; and Mr.
Boyd, national chairman. The com
mittee sought—and very generously
received—the working cooperation of
men and women who are uniquely
qualified to give eloquent expression
to the faith millions of Americans
hold in their fundamental liberties.
The series opened with a play by
William Saroyan, "The People With
Light Coming Out of Them." Robert
E. Sherwood has written a play
about freedom of the press. Marc
Connelly has a story of the teacher
who has been to Europe to come back
to a supervisor who branded her as a
“Moscow Agent.” James Boyd tells
the story of an ordinary American
who just doesnt like to be punched
around—whether the pushing is by his
boss or l.is fellow-workers. Other
famed writers who are contributing
to the series are Maxwell Anderson,
Sherwood Anderson. Stephen Vincent
-'net, George 1C. Cohan, Norman
Corwin, Paul Green, Ernest Hem
ingway, Archibald MacLelsh, EHmer
Rice and Orson Welles.
