Young Violin ist of Vass, Wins Praise of Dave Kuhinoff Janet Rosser of Vass, youthful violinist, had the thrill of her life last Friday when she attended a concert by the noted violinist, Dave Rubinoff, iti Memorial Auditorium in Raleigh, and afterwprds was in vited to play for him. Accompanied by Mias Mary Emma Thomas of Cameron, Janet attended the concert with a letter of introduction from her instruc tor, Prof. F. H. Ponish of Maxton. She had no difficulty in meeting Mr. Rubinoff and was cordially re ceived. She had not expected to play for him, but accepted his in vitation to go to the Sir Walter Hotel for an audition, and had the pleasure of playing one of his violins. Mr. Rubinoff gave Janet an autographed photograph, along with the encouraging as surance that she has talent. Sanatorium-Moore Co. On Thursday evening the Rev. R. E Brown, pastor of the Hay Street Methodist Church in Fayetteville, gave the principal address at the graduation exercises in the auditor ium of the Sanatorium. He was in troduced by C. D. Thomas, a.sslatant superintendent of the Sanatorium, who acted as master of ceremonies. The speaker chose as his subject "Allies for Every Nurse.” The four allies which Insure success In the nursing profession, he said, are an understanding of people, a love of beauty, a sense of humor and faith in one’s calling. Gray of the Sanatorium staff sang several selections, which included "The Lord’s Prayer” by Albert Hay at Southern Pines on the following Mondays and Tuesdays, and the first of such policy will be “A Woman’s Face,” with Joan Crawford, Melvyn Douglas and Conrad Veldt, which was postponed from Southern Pines last week. McCain, superintendent of the North Carolina Sanatorium, awarded the diplomas to the grad uates, who took their first two years of training at the Sanatorium and their third year's work at the Moore County Hospital In Pinehurst. In his congratulatory message Dr- McCain saij that the nursing pro fession was unsurpassed in oppor tunities for service to humanity and personal satisfactions. In presenting the school pins Dr. 1 C. R. Monroe, surgeon of the Moore (bounty Hospital, spoke of the sacri fices and hard work which the grad uates have cheerfully undergone and expressed the conviction that they would continue to assume responsi- blllties happily and cheerfully. The Rev. Harry K. Holland of Raeford pronounced the invocation and the benediction. Artistic flower arrangements on the rostrom carried out the hospital colors of green and gold. Following the exercises the audi- tnce was invited to a reception at the I Nurses’ Home, where the graduates I received the congratulations of the j commencement guests. Wtlllam P. Parker was struck on the head and shoulder by the falling masonry, knocked down and stunned. A gash was cut in the back of his head, which bled profusely, but Mr. Parker was able to make his way home and Is recovering nicely. No one knew of his injury until sometime later as everyone else on the sjfreet had sought shelter. The flagpole fell across an electric power line and was causing excite ment aplenty until an unidentified man in a car bearing a Durham li cense tag stopped and severed the wire, then proceeded on his way.
