r Page Eight THE PILOT, Southern Pines, North Carolina Friday, February 2, 1945. C. T. PATCH Department Store Featuring— the American Golfer in chambray with fly front Several other good styles also Back in musical comedy again, after his sensationally successful flight into the finer stuffs of “Go ing My Way”, Bing Crosby comes to the Pinehurst Theatre, Sunday night, Feb. 4th, for a return date in the Sandhills, in “Here Come The Waves”, backed by a strong supporting cast including Betty Hutton and Sonny Tufts. Bing Crosby’s tricks with his voice and desperate grabbing of the micro phone in his burlesque of the cur rent “swoon-croon” craze is one of the funniest things to come out of Hollywood in years. His gift for comedy has been overshadow- eji by his singing during his many years in pictures but this one brings out his flair to an increas ingly greater degree. Due to circumstances over which We have no control, there will be no attraction at the Pine hurst Theatre, Wednesday, Feb. 7th. BASKETBALL TEAMS ARE ENTERTAINED Last Monday night, January 29, the Southern Pines High School basketball teams enjoyed a dinner given them at the Country Club by sorpe of the townspeople. Guests of honor were Donald Scheipers, Clyde Smith, and Da vid Morri.son, who were leaving for the Navy, and Jimmy Harring ton, who is leaving for college at a later date. Activities featured games, danc ing, and a sports quiz. The three members of the basketball team who are leaving were given scrolls signed by all their teain mates, and all four boys were giv-> en going-away presents. Those at tending the party included Super intendent and Mrs. P. J. Weaver, Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Dawson, Miss Aline Todd, and the members of both the boys’ and the girls’ bas ketball teams. Saturday, Feb. 3 Nighl at 7:15 and 9:00 Matinee 3:00 “THE BOSS OF BOOMTf^WN” ROD CAMERON , - ^FUZZY KNIGHT Tuesday, Feb. 5-6 Night at 7:15 and 9:10 “GYPSY WILDCAT” maria montez The New York of 41 years ago provides the colorful background against which an extremely inter esting psychological drama un folds in “Experiment Perilous”, the attraction at the Pinehurst Theatre, Friday Night, Feb. 9th, at 8:30.The superb cast is head ed by Hedy Lamarr, George Brent and Paul Lukas and includes Carl Esmond, Albert Decker, Margaret Wicherly, Mary Servos and many others. As a piece of production crafts manship it is so good it enters the category of an achievement. The horse-and-buggy decade has been captured with a fine fidelity and appreciation. At the Carolina Theatre, Sou thern Pines, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 4-5-6, at 8:15 p. m., Humphrey Bogart, Walter Bren nan and the new screen “find” Lauren Bacall, return 4:0 the Sand hills in “To Have And Have Not”, which is a grand sequel to Bo gart’s former success, “Casa Blanca.” The setting is Martinique where DeGaullists are beginning to make things hum for Admiral Robert and his Vichy administra tors. On Wedr/^f y Thursday, Feb 7-8 8:15 p. m. with a , «iatinee, “Experiment Thursday 1 i, Perilniiq” ^he Southern Pines masterfully , >ed wit\ meticulous atten- tior' details, making most con- cing the atmosphere and back grounds of the gaslight era in which the story unfolds. Perform ances, without exception are flaw less and direction is o5 like qual ity. ‘ On Friday and Saturddv, Peb. 9-10, at 8:15 p. m. with \ Satt urday matinee, that hilaiious comedy, “Three Is a FamiyV^ featuring Charlie Ruggles, Ly Bainter, Helen Broderick aHv Hattie McDaniel, returns to the Sandhills, at the Souttem Pines Theatre. Combining the universal, home ly; appeal of a pair of chubby twins in threei-acfrnered pants with the laughable side of the current' help, housing and hus band shortage, the picture is solid fun, in which, through a maze of babies, bottles and bassinets, grandpa, grandma and maiden aunt struggle to keep their dis positions and sanity.
