Watt 't The many Sandhills friends of Mrs. Evelyn Bond Watt of Pine- hurst were deeply saddened to learn of her death at the Moore County Hospital at 6:00 a. m. on Tuesday morning, May 14, follow ing a brief illiness. Mrs. Watt, survived by her husband, William H. Watt, pased,at the age of sev enty-eight. Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. T. A. Cheatam, were held from the Village Chapel, Pinehurst, at 3:00 p. m. on Thurs day. Interment was in the Beth- y esda Cemetery, Aberdeen. Mrs. Watt was born in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, daughter of Cha rles E. Bond, who was connected with the original Studebaker or ganization. Mr. and Mrs. Watt, originally of East Orange, N. J., have been coming to Pinehurst for the past thirtjr-three years, and for the past fifteen years have been permanent residents. On January 7 of this year they had celebrated their 60th wedd ing anniversary. V-L Softball Team Has Winning Season Girls of the Vass-Lakeview softball team have scored four wins in the four games they have played this year. Their first game was with Cameron at Cam eron, when they piled up a 22-4 score in five-innings. Playing on the honiie field they edged a 10-9 victory from Southern Pines in a seven-inning game. A second tilt with Cameron at Vass result ed in a 14-2 score at the end of five innings, and their final game, with Southern Pines, at Southern Pines, ended seven to five. Seven Births In Week At Moore Hospital Seven births were announced at the Moore County Hospital during the week ending May 14th. . May 7th—daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Thompson, Pinehurst. 8th—son of Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Mills, Southern Pines. 9th—son of Mr. and Mrs. Ben jamin Arnette, Carthage. 9th.^son of Mr. and Mrs. Rob ert Webb. Eagle Springs. 9th—daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Caviness, Carthage. 10th—daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. B. Brown, Robbins. 10th—son of Mr. and Mrs. G. R. Currie, Pinehurst. One death, that of Mrs. W. H. Watt, on May 14th, was reported during this period. Commissioner Will Not Seek Reeleclion FOR SALE ON ASHE STREET Six Room Cottage W. J. JDunlap, Robbins jeweler present member of the Board of County Commissioners for Moore, has announced this week that he will not be a candidate for reel-t ection. The present commissioner stated that the requirements of his business had caused him to make his decision. Dunlap was appointed to the Board of Com^ missioners in May of 1939, to fill the unexpired term of D. D. Mc- Crimmon, and has since been re elected for three consecutive terms. W. H. Jackson, Jr., of Robbins, is a present candidate for com missioner, while the vacancy is also being sought by Bethel Dun lap, of Robbins, route 2. Mrs. Henry Menzel Dies Al East Orange Harry Menzel of Southern Pines received word Wednesday morning of the death of his mo ther, Mr^. Henry Mienzel^ and has gone to East Orange, N.
