C. Speaker W. D- Sabiston, attorney of Car thage was guests speaker at the Brotherhood Class of the Com munity Sunday School Sunday morning. Bones Broken W. M. Chriscoe. Sr., entered Moore County Hospital last week where he was taken following a fall from a scaffold as he and his sons were doing some work on the home of Angus P. Maples. Mr. Chriscoe had some bones broken but his condition continues to im prove- \ Shore Leave Richard Smith, S l|c„ spent a few days leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Smith at After glow cottage last week. Sunday he returned to his ship, USS Con solation, a naval hospital vessel, docked in New York Harbor. Richard expects his release from the navy about the middle of August. Dr. Edward Benbow of Greensboro was a guest of -the Smiths for the weekend. Twin Tonsils The Hawley twins, Barbara and Margaret underwent a tonsilec- tomy at the Moore County Hos pital Friday- Personals Mr. and Mrs. Frank M. Host and small daughter Frankie have returned from a two weeks’ va cation. They were- guests of rel atives in Raleigh, Winston-Salem, Greensboro and High Point for a week and then joined Mr. and Mrs. Eugene MacDonald at Caro line Beach for several days. Mr. and Mrs. Charles L- Frye and family have returned from several days vacation in the mountains of North Carolina. Miss Evelyn Garner, her bro ther Richard, Miss Flora Ellen Cameron and James Garrison mo tored to White Lake last Sun day for the day. Mrs. T. L. Black spent several days this week in Durham as guest of Mr. and Mrs- Keenan Rand. i Miss Bertha McDonald of Con cord returned to her home after a two weeks’ visit with her sis ter, Mrs. A. M. Kennedy and fam ily. Mr. and Mrs. Kennedy ac companied her to Concord Sun day for the day- Mrs. Bernice Richardson of At lanta is on a ten days’ visit with Mr. and Mrs. Byron U. Richard son at Sycamore cottage. Peter Tufts was in town last week before going to Linville for a short visit and then to join his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard S. Tufts at Fisher Island, N- Y. for the remainder of the summer. Peter received his discharge from the Navy last week at Norfolk. Misses Dorothy Harris and Frances Smith have returned from a visit with Mr. and Mrs. Holt McKenzie in Washington, D. C. William H. Watt. Mrs. Marian Phillips and Miss Mary Evelyn Phillips have returned from Eagles Mere, Pa-, and East Orange, N. J., where they spent several weeks. Capt. and Mrs. James R. Wick er have arrived from Long Beach, Calif., to visit their parents. Mr. and Mrs- Rassie E. Wicker and Mr. and Mrs. B. U. Richardson. Capt. Wicker leaves Monday for foreign service. Hayride About 50 young people enjoyed a Hayride Thursday night under the direction of Miss ‘‘Kathie’’ Hunley. Mrs. T- P. Cheney and G. M. Cameron were adult as sistants. The group rode to Lake- view where they enjoyed a wein- er roast and dancing. Along the ride the young fols harmonized in familiar songs. Arch Currie drove the covered truck which was filled with straw for the occasion. Mr. and Mrs- Bill Viall, Mb’, and Mrs. Eugene K. McKenzie, MjSgt. and Mrs. Russell Brami and sev eral other young married couples also attended th^ roast. Plane Crash Mr. and Mrs. B. U- Richardson and Mrs. Paul Peck attended the funeral of Lt. Wilfred O. Davis jn Weldon, Sunday. Lt. Davis, 23 years old, and a brother of Miss “Skeet ’ Davis, formerly of Pine hurst was killed July 18th in a plane crash near Topeka, Kan sas, en route from a visit with his parents in Weldon to Keam Field, Utah. All the crew mem bers and 7 passengers were killed ' including his best ’“buddy”.
