Enrolls In Colorado
School of Mines
Stewart M. Collester, son of
Mrs. C. H. Collester of 70 South
May Street, Southern Pines, has
enrolled at the Colorado School
of Mines this year with the larg
est freshman class ever register
ed at this institution.
In registering at the Colorado
School of Mines young Collester
has entered an institution of a
distinctive nature which coniers
no degree other than the profes
sional degrees of mining engin
eer, petroleum engineer, geologi
cal engineer, and metallurgical
engineer.
The Colorado School of Mines,
the oldest institution in the coun
try devoted exclusively to min
eral engineering training, is lo
cated at Golden, thirteen miles
west of Denver. The school is not
only picturesquely situated at the
base of the Front Range of the
Rockies, but it is in the very
heart of a rich, natural labora
tory and within easy access of
coal and metal mines, large oil
fields, refineries, smelters, iron
works and the like where practi
cal firsthand observations of the
mineral and allied industries may
be made at all times in connec
tion with regular classroom
work.
The Veterans Administration
now lists 15,884,000 veterans on
its rolls. Of this total, 11,904,000
saw service in World War II.
