A series of short films dealing with North Carolina’s health sit uation, and featuring famous Tar Heel movie ^d radio stars will be shown in all state theaters, the good Health Association has an nounced. The first of the series of two- and-a-half minute trailers pre sents Kathryn Grayson, native of Winston-Salem. It has been cir culated throughout the state and is now being screened in princi pal cities. The films were made in Holly wood through the efforts of Kay Kyser. MGM, RKO, and Colum bia Studios each are contributing a number of the films cost-free in the interest of the campaign and stars are giving their ser vice free. In the first film, Kathryn Gray son makes no appeal for funds. She describes the crying need of North Carolina for additional hospitals and medical care, ob serving that the state ranks 40th in infant mortality in the na tional standings and 38th in the death of mothers at child birth. ‘‘The, people of North Caro lina”, Miss Grayson concliudes, “must get health-conscious. We must all talk and practice good health. Whether or not there is to be good health for all North Carolina rests entirely in the peo ple’s hands.” Randolph Scott, of Charlotte, will appear in the second film to be released next week. The films are being serviced to North Car olina theatres by the Wilbnr- Kincey Company of Charlotte. Other films to be shown before Christmas will feature Anne Jef freys, of Goldsboro; Ava Gardner of Wilson; and Kay Kyser. Accidents have replaced any single infectious disease as the prime killer of children and youth after infancy. They take- a yearly toll of almost 20,000 boys and girls under 20 years of age. This fact is revealed in a study made by the Children’s Bureau j of the U. S. Department of Labor. The study also discloses that by far the most important cause of accident death to older children is automobile deaths. Drowning is next. D.TS. Neal and McLean VETERINARIANS Southern Pines. N. C.
