Suttonfield, pres ident, was in charge of the meet- ing,reviewing the book, “Visit ing a Purpose”. Mrs. Robert con ing a Purpose”. Mrs. R Stewart conducted a Bible study on Isaiah stressing the fact that prayer is more effective when others are prayed for. Cream pie, cookies and coffee were served at the close of the meeting. Birthday Party Mrs.O. C. Adcox entertained at a tea on Thursday honoring Mrs. Everette C. Johnston on her birth day. Those invited were: Mes- dames: Robert Austin, H. H. Troutman, Joseph Rarden, W. Pickier The dining room where tea was served was attractively decorated with fall flowers. Mrs. Douglas David presided at the tea table which was attractive with a beautiful hand-made lace cloth, bowl of mixed fall flowers, and a beautiful Birthday cake, with candles. The guests enjoyed cake, cookies, sandwiches and tea. Paslor Reappointed Friends of Rev. and Mrs. G. W. Crutchfield will be glad to know that he has been appointed by the Methodist Conference to serve as pastor of the Methodist Church here again for the coming year. Tacky Party A tacky party, honoring Jen- nett Vanboskerck on her 11th birthday, was given by her mo ther last Friday night. The young guests came dressed in tacky cos tumes. Games were enjoyed. The guests were Barbara Con rad, Lorraine Morgan, Hazel Brooks, Ann Deaton, Eloise Ad cox, Carrol Baker, Joan Meanor Pauline Lampley, Mary Jane Marts, Gladys Ann Nivens and Carol Wiley. Mrs. Van Boskerck served cakes, cookies, sandwiches and drinks. Personals Mr. and Mrs. Clay Parker of Raleigh spent the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Merritt Parker. Bruce Thompson spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Cool- idge Thompson. Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Vanbos- kerch who have been making their home here for the past year have moved to Southern Pines. Mires J. Zett of High Point vis ited in the home of Mrs. Mae Miller last week. Mrs. Mae Miller and Mires J. Zett attended the funeral in Car thage Thursday of Neil Caddell, grandfather of Mrs. Mires Zett. Miss Nancy Keith of Aberdeen spent Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Keith. Mesdames W, K. Carpenter, Earl Lampley, and W. Roy Grif fin spent Thursday in Carthage. Miss Joyce Wiseman of Sou-' them Pines spent Friday with Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Keith. Mrs. Carlton Clippard has re turned from Bladenboro where she spent several days with her parents. She was accompanied home by her young son. Tommy, who spent several weeks with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ray mond Averitt. The friends of Mrs. Julius Ni vens will be glad to know she is doing fine after a major opera tion at the Moore County Hospi tal. Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Gates re turned home last week from New York state. They were accompan ied home by their son, Dickie, who has been spending several months there with his grandpa rents. Mr. and Mrs. W. K. Carpenter and boys, Billie, Virgie, and Johnnie, spent Sunday in Raleigh as guests of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Adams and Mr. Carpenter’s pa rents.
