La mar Jackson at an informal re- . ceptibn Friday^ evening, Dec. 6, at eight o’clock in the recreation room of the First Baptist Church. Mr. Jackson, who recently ac cepted the pastorate of the church, Mrs. Jackson and their young daughter, Mary Helen, ar rived Saturday afternoon from Brownstown, Ind., where Mr. Jackson has had a church for the past three and a half years. He is a former resident of Mobile, Ala., and Mrs. Jackson of Mont gomery. They are at home in the Baptist parsonage on New York Avenue at May Street. Miss Kate McIntyre’s Engagement Announced A holiday season wedding is being planned by Miss Kate Mc Intyre of Wingate, daughter of Mrs. J. C. McIntyre, and the late Mr. McIntsTre. Her engagement was announced last weel?. She will marry Charles Peck, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Peck of Harrington, Del. They have cho sen Dec. 27th for their marriage in Wingate. Among their out of town guests will be their daughter, Mrs. William Matchett of Milwaukee, Wis., and grandson and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Hayes of Chapel Hill, and grandchildren, Mary Dell Matchett, and Sarah Kath erine Hayes, student at State College, Raleigh. Thanksgiving Day S. B. Richardson and his sis ter. Miss Mary Richardson had as their guests on Thanksgiving day Mr. Riichardson’s children, Mrs. John A. Leland of Charles ton, S. C., the Rev. and Mrs. Wil liam Wonderly and their two children, and Mr. and Mrs. George Richardson. Mr. and Mrs. Richardson have returned to Wa terloo, Iowa, after a ten days’ visit with their father and aunt. M. X). Moran of Kane, Pa., her nieces. Mis Ann Katherine Mo ran of Washington, D. Ci, and Miss Patricia Moran of Southern Pines, and Miss Lib Myers of Monroe, Dawrence Holquist of Kane, and L. D. McDonald Jr., CPHM, of Norfolk. Mr., and Mrs. Dan R. McNeill had as their guests on Thanks giving day Mr. and Mrs. Charles Daly and Mr. and Mrs. O. C. Anderson of Washington, D. C. Mrs. Anderson is Mrs. McNeill’s niece. Mr. and Mrs. Ladeau H. Cherry, Jr., celebrated Thanks giving with a family reunion dinner for twenty at their home. Their guests were relatives from Southern Pines, Aberdeen, Ba den and Charlotte. Miss Thelma and Miss Blhnche Moss were with their family in High Point; Miss Phoebe Weath- erspoon in Laurens, S. C.; Miss Abbie Sutherland in Belton, S. C.; Miss Aline Todd in Char lotte; Miss.Hope Bailey in Burns ville; Miss Lee Black with friends in Roanoke, Va., and Miss Mary McNeill Buckner in Clio, S. C. While in Wingate for the holi day Miss Bess McIntyre attended a pre-nuptial party for her sis ter, Miss. Kate McIntyre. When Miss Pauline Miller returned from a visit in Statesville she was accompanied by her father, R. A. Miller, who will remain here for part of the winter. Son Named Barry Pennington is the name chosen by Mr. and Mrs. Vahally for their second son born Sun day, Nov. 24, in Moore County Hospital. Barry and his brother, John, Jr., now two years bid, will celebrate their birthdays on the same day. Sixth Birthday On last Saturday afternoon Linda Thompson was hostess to several of her young friends at a party celebrating her sixth birth day on Nov. 27. She is the daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. George M. Thompson and the party was giv en at their home on West Illi nois Avenue. During the afternoon the youngsters were treated to home movies of comedies in techni color. Refreshments of a birth day cake and ice cream were served. Linda’s guests were Jerry and Donnie Smith, Carol Ann Fulp, Patsy Hoffman, Timmy Corny, Joan and Johnny Grover, and her brother, Don. Broad Street. Buffet Luncheon On Wednesday afternoon Mrs. Frank Neely entertained in her home on Pennsylvania Avenue with a buffet luncheon, served at one o’clock. The table was at tractively decorated with ar rangements of pine cones and boughs with Christmas motif. After luncheon bridge was play ed and at the conclusion of the game those holding high scores received prizes wrapped 'in gay Christmas colors. Kennedy, Midland Road. Legion and Auxiliary Combine Meetings A joint meeting of the Ameri can Legion and the Auxiliary was held at the Legion Hut Tues day night, Dec. 3. Three new members of the Auxiliary were initiated, Mrs. Robert Johnston, Mrs. Jack Reid and Mrs. William P. Moore, making the 1947 mem bership total seventy-four. After the business sessions re freshments were served by mem bers of the Auxiliary. Coca colas were donated by Robert Johns ton. Teen Age Dance Another in the series of dances for the Teen Age Club was held Thanksgiving night at the Com munity Center. A 'large group was present for the good time, to enjoy the evening of dancing, with refreshments of cpkes and cookies. Chaperones were Mrs. Earl Merrill, Mrs,. J. T. Overton, Mrs. John Daniels and Mrs. J. Elm^r Harrington. David Speirs returned from Duke with Norris Hodgkins, Jr., to spend the Thanksgiving holi days with Mr. and Mrs. N. L. Hodgkins.
