Sec ond were Mrs. John Warren and Mrs. F. M. Hoffman, 7 up. Tied for third, 6 up, were Mrs. James Given and Mrs. B. Lester Tyrrel; Mrs. H. E. Robinson and Mrs. H. I E. Small. In the last club tournament for men last week winners were, S. B. Masten and Leonard Kebler, 35-30-65, and R. M. Bowles and E. G. B. Riley 32-33-65. Second were H. E. Small and J. M. Ache- son 32-34-66, and R. B. Prescott, Sr., and R. B. Prescott, Jr., 34-32- 66. ' Mrs. John O. Hobson won the ladies’ weekly putting contest Sat- ’ urday, 36 plus 1-37. Dr. W. O. Smith defeated R. S. ’ Townsend in the play-off to win i the Tin Whistles Barber trophy last week. Mr. and Mrs. James T. Hunter, North Adams, Mass., won the Chapman Memorial trophy pre sented by Mr .and Mrs. Richard D. , Chapman. Tied lor second place ' were Miss Mae Murray and Stu art H. Patterson; Mr. and Mrs ■ Donald D. Cooke. Seventy-three : pairs entered the tournament. . Hole In One i F. W. Fledderjohn, a Pine Crest ■ guest, member of the Colonial ; Country club in Harrisburg, Pa., scored a hole in one on the par 3 138-yard sixth hole on No. course last week. Playing with him were S. L. Tanner, H. C. Brownell and Stanley Parkot, also ' Pine Crest guests. Saturday’s winners in the Tin Whistle par bogie better ball of pair tournament were: J. M. Ache- son and H. E. SmaU, 50-40-90; Al bert C. Aborn and James Thorn ton MacDonald, 48-40-88; Louis R. Porteous and R. B. Prescott, 42-42- 84. Sprague, Boston, Mass.; R. G. Brown, Toronto, Canada. Baseball Pinehurst High and Carthage met on the local field for a base- : ball game last Wednesday and the ■ score was 14-14. Lloyd Oldham i for Carthage scored 3 hits in four ' times at bat for Carthage, and i Frank White hit a home run for Pinehurst. Allen Watson allowed i Carthage only eight hits. ■ Country Club Officers ' John L. Given has been elected 1 president of the Pinehurst Coun- ; try club. Slightly Injured Bill Smith suffered a few cuts and bruises Saturday night when his car onto the shoulder of . the highway near Candor and ■ turned over. The car was com- : pletely demolished.
