Presbyterian Men's Club A social and fellowship meeting of the Presbyterian Men’s club was held last Friday night with 37 men pr^esent. The place was the American Legion hut, the supper being a fish fry. One meeting out of every quarter is a social one, and fhe next such meeting will be held on th^ second Sunday night in July. Church Repairs • Extensive repairs to the Pres byterian church have been com pleted except for the inside paint ing. The Women of the Church, at their Monday meeting, voted to purchase a red carpet. Intensive Bible St||dy On last Friday evening a family dinner, picnic style, was held at the Presbyterian church with an evening of intensive Bible study following. Mrs. George Heinitsh of South ern Pines taught the lesson, which covered the book of Hebrews. Mrs. Heinitsh (Nellie Graves) is former Carthage girl and also a former memtoer of the Presby terian Church here. Birth Announcement Mt. and Mrs. DeWitt Warner announce the birth of a baby girl, born Monday, June 12, in the Moore County hospital. Baptist Commencement The Baptist children, who have been having a fine time during their Bible school, enjoyed a pic nic Thursday afternoon at Aber deen Lake. Commencement exer cises will be held at 7:30 at the church this evening (Friday). Vacation Bible School The union Bible school of the Methodist and Presbyterian churches began its second week Monday with the record of a splendid week’s work behind them. A total of 117 pupils have I been enrolled with an average daily attendance of over 100. Methodist Ladies' Night It will be Ladies’ night next Tuesday for the Carthage, Rob bins, and Aberdeen Methodist Men’s clubs. The meeting will be held at Center church and is put on by the ladies of the church for the benefit of their building fund. Word has spread concerning the wonderful dinners served by the ladies at Center and everyone is i looking forward to going. The address for the evening is also being anticipated with great interest. Miss Frances Ivey of Durham, secretary of the North Carolina Council of Churches, will make the speech and her rep utation has "also preceded her. Personal Mention Earl Blue McDonald left Sun day for Chapel Hill, where he will attend summer school. Mrs. W. R. Clegg is in the Moore County hospital, where she underwent an operation last Mon day. The Rev. W. S. Golden is teach ing a class at the Young People’s conference being held this week at Flora Macdonald. Representing the Pioneers this week at .White Lake are Phoebe McDonald, Barbara Brown, Can- dice McDonald, and Becky Mc Donald. Tommy Stewart is attending summer school at PJC. Mrs. L. R. Sugg attended the Synodical Training school at Peace college, which was held June 5-12. Miss Ruth Tyson left Sunday for the University at Chapel Hiil to attend summer school. Among the Carthage Young People attending the conference at Flora Macdonald this week are Nancy Wallace, Bobby Stewart, Mary Blue Cameron, Ann Currie, Helen Street McDonald, Mary Al len McDonald, J'unior Wallace, Worth McDonald, Rose Miller, Mary Louise McDonald, Lillie Ellen Wise, Jimmie Fraser, and Johnny Barringer. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Muse have pur chased the Lee Warren home on Dowd street. They are now doing extensive remodeling and expect to move in within the next two weeks. Mrs. John Baker visited Duke university last week to see her daughter, Miss Betty Baker, in cap and gown receive her diploma from the Duke School of Nursing. Mr. and Mrs. Gentry Womack of Greensboro spent the past weekend with Mrs. Beuah Wom ack. Mrs. Margaret Penn of For Bragg spent a few days at her home here this week. Miss Myrtle McCaskill spent the weekend with her sister. Miss Bess McCaskill. Miss Mary Gee Willcox has re turned home from Clayton, where she taught last winter. Miss Annie Margaret Brewer is at home after having taught in Shallotte during the wnter. Mr. and Mrs. H. V. Chappell left Friday for Catawba. The Sherwood Brockwells have returned home from a visit to Mr. Brockwell’s sister, Mrs. H. M. Jos- elyn. of Danville, Va. He holds a position in Ra leigh. ABERDEEN Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Buffkin left Sunday for a week’s vacation in Florida. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Smith and sons, Jackson and Joe, motored to Statesville Sunday with Mrs. S. E. Sloan, who was returning home from a visit here. Joe Smith re mained with her for the summer. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Barnhart spent last week at Wrightsville Beach. Mrs. Robert Maurer left Friday for Greensboro, where she will at tend a six weeks’ Summer session at WCUNC. Miss Annie Laurie Sessoms of Ahoskie arrived Sunday night for a visit with her sister, Mrs. Clifton Wilson, who is ill in the Moore County hospital. Miss Betty Worth left Monday for Chapel Hill, where she will visit Mr. and Mrs. George Worth this week and go on to Richmond next week to see Mr.«and Mrs. William Worth and family. Mr. and Mrs. Deane White and sons returned home Sunday after a week’s vacation, with relatives in Florida and South Carolina. Miss Biligene Addor, Miss Dor othy Monroe and Jimmy White left Monday for Flora Macdonald college, to attend the Presbytery’s Young Peoples’ conference. Miss Ella Ruth McNeill, who has been in Red Springs this week for Sy nod’s conference, will remain for the second week. The Rev. Charles Worth is attending this conference as direc tor. Lewis Harrington, Jr., is a member of the camp staff. Mrs. Mabel Townsend attended the Synodical Training school held at Peace college last week as a delegate from the Bethesda church.
