PAGE SIXTEEN THE PILOT—Southern Pines. North Carolina FRIDAY. APRIL 9. 1954 fUEAThlS CAROLINA A warm, intensely human and captivating drama of a little boy’s adventures in New York’s Coney Island, which is one of the finest independent pictures of the year, and which has already won a Sil ver Lion Award at this year’s Venice Film Festival and has re ceived spreads in Life and other national magazines, is the specif film, “Little Fugitive,” which is opening at the Carolina Theatres, Pinehurst and Southern Pines Sunday, April 11, running one ■ night only at Pinehurst and con tinuing through Monday and Tuesday, with matinees Sunday and Tuesday, at Southern Pines. Of speciaL interest to the two communities is the fact that one of the producers is Harrington Harlow, of New York, son of Bob Harlow, editor of “Golf World” at Pinehurst. The film features seven-year- old Richie Andrusco, a Brooklyn kid, who runs away to Coney Is land, where he has many interest ing and amusing adventxires. “Time” magazine called it one of the funniest pictures ever produc ed outside of Hollywood and all critics agree that it is a unique and wonderful film which will be long remembered. For a day and a night the little boy wanders at large through the park experiencing just about every sensation dreamed of by a child in his most fanciful mo ments. He stuffs himself with hot dogs, pop and spun candy, rides the merry-go-round till he’s slightly hysterical, goes through fun houses and eventually casts his lot in the pony ride concession. He’s crazy about horses. GUARANTEED TERMITE CONTROL FREE INSPECTIONS DIAL 3-9626 FRYE Exterminating Co. 210 Circle Ave. Sanford, N. C. Following at the Carolina Thea tre, Southern Pines, Wednesday and Thursday, April 14-15 (two days) at 8:15 p. m. is a charming tale of the love of a girl and a horse for each other, under the title of “Gypsy Colt,” (In Ansco Color) which is sure-fire enter tainment for the entire family, especially for lovers of fine horse flesh. The horse is a real black beauty and remarkably well trained. Lit tle Donna Corcoran as the girl plays her part as though she were living it, and Ward Bond as her father and Frances Dee as her mother are ideal. Eric Knight, who wrote the original on which the memorable “Lassie Come Home” was based, performed the same duty on “Gypsy Colt.” Sentimental attachment to am- mals, particularly to dogs and horses, has almost become a tra dition in American films, especial ly such remarkable horses as Champion and Silver, and now, through the efforts of Metro a new name will be added to that select society. It belongs to a horse; a beautiful, young black colt dubbed “Gypsy.” The 82nd Airborne Infantry Di vision will parachute into “enemy” territory on Exercise “Flash Burn” at Fort Bragg.
