Holiday Brings
Out Swimmers;
Patrolmen Busy
Young People To
Meet At Local
Church Sunday
will be
CLOSED FOR REPAIRS
Sun., June 6, through Tues., June 22
Reopening for Breakfast, Wednesday, June 23
The recent holiday, coinci
ding with the first real summer
time warmth, brought hundreds
of persons out for their first swim
of the season.
Aberdeen Lake was pretty well
filled Saturday—and Sunday it
was packed. Picnic parties, family
groups, boys and girls frolicking
together made a Sandhills Coney
Island out of the popular recrea
tion spot. One observer noted, “I
don’t believe they could get an
other single person into that lake.”
Many Sandhills people joined
the throngs converging on North
Carolina beaches, for a holiday
outing in perfect weather.
Southern Pines town. lake is
open to swimmers but a warning
is issued by Irie Leonard, recrea
tion director, that there will be
no life guard on duty until the
summer play program opens
Monday, June 14.
One tragedy marred the holiday
in this area. A 34-year-old Ma
rine warrant officer, John Daniel
Hamilton, lost his life in Deep
River while on a fishing party
with his brother and little nephew
from Greensboro. Details were
given in last week’s Pilot.
‘ Highway Patrolmen stayed on
duty, aided by a speedwatch, and
made a record haul of speeders—
a likely contributing factor to
ward the low accident rate here
over the weekend. With the high
way death toll mounting else
where in the nation and State, no
fatalities were recorded in this
immediate vicinity.
Law enforcement officers said
they found the holiday a quiet
one.
The Pilgrim Fellowship of the
Church of Wide Fellowship, of
which Patti Woodell is president,
will be host Sunday at 6 p. m.
to a joint meeting of young peo
ple’s groups from six Sandhills
churches.
The groups meet regularly at
the various churches represented.
In addition to members of the hosfr
group, representatives are expect
ed from the First Baptist Church,
Emmanuel Episcopal Church and
Brownson Memorial Presbyterian
Church, all of Southern Pines;
the Pinehurst Community Church
and the West End Presbyterian
Church.
1954, or this notice will be plead
ed in bar of their recovery. All
persons indebted to the said es
tate will please make immediate
payment.
Dated this 22nd day Of May
1954.
PATRICIA STROUT HAYNES,
Administratrix of the Estate
of Sarah M. Reed.

The young people will bring
food for the supper, with the host
group providing the beverages.
Main item on the 'program will be
a film, “The Hidden Heart,” which
was produced in Hollywood and
which tells how two parents “help
their daughter find the answer to
life’s deepest questions.”

It gets you Buick room, Buick luxury,
Buick size and structure and solidity-
including of course, the famed Million

It gets you, too, solid and deep-down value.
For any way you look at it, you’re money
