State’s Schools
To Gather Here
School supervisors and directors
of instruction who are members
of the North Carolina Education
Association will hold their annual
three-day conference at Southern
Pines November 14-16, according
to Emily Butler, of Lumberton,
State president of the department
of supervisors of the NCEA.
The theme of the meeting, with
headquarters at the Hollywood
Hotel, is to be “Strengthening Re
lationships in Supervision.” The
chief speaker is Dr. Jane Fran-
seth. Department of,Health, Edu
cation and Welfare, Washington,
D. C. Dr. Franseth will ^peak at
the first general session Sunday
evening, November 14, and will
give an evaluation of the confer
ence at the final session Tuesday
morning. She will be available
for conferences and consultations
throughout the convention.
Others who will appear on the
program are Dr. Charles F. Car-
roll, State superintendent of pub
lic instruction; Dr. Arnold Perry,
dean of the school of education.
University of North Carolina; Dr.
Franklin McNutt, dean of gradu
ate school. Woman’s College,
Greensboro; James Manning, sup
erintendent of Martin County
schools, Williamston; Mrs. Carrie
Abbott, supervisor, Swain County;
Miss Madeline Tripp, associate.
Department of Public Instruction.
Tickets are available for the
banquet, to be held at the Holly
wood Hotel Monday, November
15, at 6:30 p.m. These tickets will
be on sale at registration Sunday
afternoon at the hotel, Mrs. But

The meeting is for supervisors,
but Mrs. Butler has extended a
special invitation to superintend
ents to cdme to the conference.
STILL IN HOSPITAL
Mrs. C. L. Tyson of Vass, wh(5
expected to return home from
Moore County Hospital last
Tuesday, did not go as stated in
the Vass news printed early in
the week. An X-ray Tuesday
showed that her right shoulder,
broken two weeks earlier, re
quired further attention and it is
not known when she will be dis
charged.
