WICKER Miss Patricia Ann Stewart, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Ralph Stewart of Hendersonville, and the Rev. Max William Wick er, son of Mrs. William Cleveland Wicker of Aberdeen and the late Mr. Wicker, were ^united in mar riage in the Duke University Chapel in Durham at 2 p.m. Sat urday, August 6. The Rev. War ren Carr officiated. Music was presented by Walter Ball of Burlington, organist, and Jim Stone of Durham and Macon, Ga., vocalist. Given in marriage by her fath er, the bride was wearing a wed ding gown which she and her mother made. It was fashioned of white lace over satin and French illusion. Her illusion veil was at tached to a satin cap and she car ried a white Bible topped with a white orchid and stephanotis. Miss Jo Ann Williams of Mt. HoUy, cousin of the bride, was maid of honor, wearing a pink cotton lace over net and taffeta gown with matching pink ban deau. Her bouquet was of rub- nim lilies. The bridegroom’s brother, Ray mond B .Wicker of Aberdeen, was best man. Ushers were James Ralph Stewart, Jr., of Henderson ville, brother of the bride, the Rev. Edwin Spann of Durham, and the Rev. Dwight Pyatt of Mt. Mourne. The mother of the bride wore a navy sheer voile dress with navy accessories 'and a white carnation corsage. The groom’s mother was attired in an imported nylon sheer dress with white accessories and a white carnation corsage. A reception in the-Duke Chapel social rooms followed the cere mony. For travel the bride wore a tur quoise silk suit with white acces sories and a white orchid. After a wedding trip to New Orleans, La., the couple will live at 3726 Bolling Road, Glenwood Farms, Richmond, Va. The bride is a graduate of Duke University where she was a mem ber of Delta Phi Alpha and Kappa Delta Pi, honorary educational fraternity. She taught first grade in Danville, Va., last ye^. The Rev. Mr. Wicker is a grad uate of Duke University and Duke Divinity School. He is assistant minister of Highland Park Meth odist Church, Richmond, Va. Miss Vivian Matthews Weds J. H. Smith At Albuquerque, N. Mex. Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Matthews of Lakeview announce the marriage of their sister, Vivian Matthews, to James H. Smith, on Saturday, July 30,'^at Albuquerque, N. Mex. Mrs. Smith is the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry A. Matthews, who resided in Moore County for a number of years. She is a graduate of the Vass- Lakeview High School and of Watts Hospital School of Nursing in Durham. After becoming a registered nqrse she worked at the Veterans Hospital at Oteen, then went to the Veterans Hospital at Pough keepsie, N. Y., where she was chief nurse. For the past several years she has held the same posi tion in the Veterans Hospital in Albuquerque, where the couple will be at home. Collins attended the opening of the new Collihs-White Department Store in Lumberton today. Mrs. R. L. de Milhau, who sus tained a major operation Wednes day at St. Joseph of the Pines Charles Bailey of Kingsville,'Hospital, is reported recovering Tex., who arrived Friday to j nicely. DAVID HOKE COON III The Rev. and Mrs. David Hoke Coon are receiving congratula tions on the birth of a son, David Hoke III, who arrived at Moore County Hospital Saturday, July 30, weighing seven pounds, eleven and a quarter ounces. Mrs. Coon is the former' Cherry Cabell of Salisbury. The Rev. Mr. Coon has been pastor of the First Baptist Church of Southern Pines for nearly two years. GAYLE HODGKINS Mr. and Mrs. George Hodgkins of Los Angeles, Calif., are the pa rents of a daughter, bom in a hospital there Wednesday morn ing, August 10, weighing seven pounds, seven ounces. They plan to call her Gayle. The baby is the first grandchild of Mr. and Mrs. Norris L. Hodg kins of 305 North May Street. MRS. Presbyterian Circles Meet Circle 1 of Brownson Memorial Presbyterian Women of thf Church met last week with Mrs. Alpha Williams, with seven mem bers responding to roll call. Mrs. W. J. Hethcox led the Bible study and Mrs. Williams presented an article from the Survey.' Mrs. R. O. Cowin was hostess to Circle 5 Tuesday morning, with 10 members in attendance. Mrs. Claude Reams presented a pro gram on “Evangelism” and Mrs. Charles S. Sexton led the Bible study. Circle 7 met with Mrs. F. M. Dwight Thursday with a total of 15 in attendance, which included two new members, Mrs. Alice Caples and Mrs. James 'White, and one visitor, Mrs. Margaret Starnes. Mrs. Troy Martin led the Bible lesson and Mrs. James Suttles conducted a study period on “Evangelism.” Circle 10 held its August meet ing in the church parlor Tuesday morning with Mrs. A. W. Pleasants gave an article from the Presby terian Woman magazine on “Evangelism Through Visitation.” Gail Given Is Expected Home From France Soon Gail Given, 14, who has been spending the summer in France with her father. Col. William J. Given, in ijommand of an Army Signal Corps depot at Orleans, is expected home soon. According to information received by her mother, Mrs. Borden Given, and grandparents. Col. and Mrs. Cal vin H. Burkehead, she will fly home, starting from Frankfurt, Germany August 18th. Gail recently went on a two weeks’ automobile tour of France and Germany with her father. She writes that she likes France, likes Germany better, but that there is no place like home. The young traveler will be a sophomore in high school here this fall.
