OCTOBER 13. 1955 IN HOTEL POST—James (Jim) Spring, Jr., right, is con gratulated by Robert F. Quain, general manager of the Conrad Hilton Hotel in Chicago, on Mr. Spring’s promotion to resident manager the Shamrock Hilton Hotel at Houston, Texas. Mr. Spring is the son of Dr. and Mrs. J. J. Spring of Southern Pines and is a graduate of the high school here. He attended the Uni versity of North Carolina and was a lieutenant in the Navy in World War II. His wife is the former Marjorie Jellison, daught er of Mr. and Mrs. S. R. Jellison of Southern Pines. Mr. Spring, before his promotion in the Hilton organization, had been with the Conrad Hilton Hotel in Chicap since 1946, rising through various positions to become operations engineer. His service there was praised highly and his “leadership, determination of purpose and friendly understanding” were cited in an announce ment of his promotion in the hotel’s staff publication. Pinebluff Lions Set Benefit Supper Friday The Pinebluff Lions Club will sponsor a barbecue supper from 6 to 9, p. m. tomorrow (Friday) at the Pinebluff lake, serving sliced barbecue and all the accompani ments. They will have real North Carolina peanut brittle for sale also. They invite the public to at tend and patronize this benefit project. Dr. Lake's Services Continuing At Church U. S. farmers own a million and a quarter power lawn mowers. They’ve also bought a quarter million chain saws. Special services being conduct ed this week at Brownson Memor ial Presbyterian Church by Dr. Julian Lake,* pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Winston- Salem, will continue tonight (Thursday) and will conclude Fri day night.
