Lions To Elect
Officers May 11 By MRS, EHRMAN PICKLER

Officers of the Southern Pines
Lions Club will be elected at the
next regular meeting of the club,
Friday, May 11.
Nominations were received at
the semi-monthly meeting held
last Friday night at the Country
Club, when the nominating com
mittee made its report, but nomi
nations are being held open until
the May 11 meeting.
In lieu of a program at the
meeting last week, members of
the club bagged hght bulbs for
the annual bulb sale being held I
this week. The sale concludes to
night (Thursday).
Elsesser-Biooks
Palm Beach, Fla., will be the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Valentine
Elsesser who were married in
her home in Pinebluff Saturday,
April 28, at 8 p. m. The bride, the
former Mrs. Catherine W.
Brooks, was given in marriage
by her son, Tyler J. Brooks of
Savannah, Ga. The ceremony was
performed by the Rev. James W.
Hamilton.
The bride’s dress was of pink
lace and satin; Her bouquet was
of pink roses with a center cor
sage of white orchids.
The matron of honor was Mrs.
Tyler J. Brooks of Savannah, Ga.

The theme of pink was carried
out with pink flowers arranged
throughout the house and a pink
double-ring Wedding cake, punch,
mints and napkins, for the re
ception.
Mrs. Elsesser is associated with
the Biltmore Hotel of Palm
Beach, Fla., and the Monmouth
Hotel of Spring Lake, N. J. The
couple will leave soon for Spring
Lake for the summer, then go to
Palm Beach for the winter.
Out of town guests were: Mr.
and Mrs. Clayton Brooks of
Laurinburg, Mr. and ]^rs. Tyler
J. Brooks of Savannah, Ga., and
Mrs. Inez Roberts of Hamlet.
To Morrow Mountain
Members of the choir of Ives
Memorial Baptist Chiurch eu
joyed a picnic dinner at Morrow
Mountain State Park on Sunday.
About 25 including members of
the choir, their husbands, wives
and children and the Rev. and
Mrs. Ray Gosnell and daughter
Ava went on the outing.

when Stevenson spoke at an open

H. Clifton Blue of Aberdeen,
president of the Moore County
Stevenson for President Club,
said this week that, so far as he
knew, there are no local arrange- j
ments for taking contributions
and that presumably all such I
gifts should be sent to the Ra-I
leigh address.
Each contributor will be given]
a gift certificate, Mr. Enloe said.
The certificates are printed in $1
and $5 denominations, prepared ]
in books of 10.
The fund will be used for radio,
television and other appearances
by Stevenson. It will operate in
North Carolina under the State
