MAY 3. 1956 Mary Trimble Cameron Wins One of 14 S " I Moore County, North Carolina, National Merit Scholarships In State Mary Trimble Cameron, daugh ter of Dr. and Mrs. E. A. Cameron of Chapel Hill and granddaughter of Mrs. Estelle Cameron of South ern Pines, is one of 14 North Caro lina winners in the nation-wide National Merit scholarship pro gram. According to an announcement /made at the Evanston, Ill., head quarters of the program Monday, Miss Cameron and the other win ners will receive funds to com plete four years of- college at the institutions of their choice. Dr. Cahieron, wno is on the mathematics faculty of the Uni versity of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, is a 1924 graduate of South ern Pines High School. His moth- ei, now a resident of Southern Pines, formerly lived at Manly. Miss Cameron, who is known as “Molly,” is one of 525 winners over the nation, selected from 60,- 000 high school seniors who were nominated by their principals. Several Moore County seniors were among those applying. The National Merit Scholarship program was set up by grants from the Ford Foundation and the Carnegie Corporation. Ten Amer ican corporations added more than one rfiillion dollars to the have an average worth of more than $6,000 each, it was stated.
