Younts Describes
Radio’s Special
Events Coverage
The influential role of radio
news coverage, with emphasis on
special events, was discussed
by Jach Younts, president
and general manager of WEEB, at
the reguter Rotary Club meeting
Friday.
The talk was made in observ
ance of Natm”^’ Radio Week,”
being held ^
try.
Younts,
of the 900-ri

recorded broadcas '.s.
One, the first oii-the-spot cov
erage of an international event
with radio was the special
broadcast H. V, Kaitenborn made
of the famous meeting between
Adolph Hitler and 'Pr’me Minis
ter Chamberlain of Grfeat Britain
at Munich.
Another, more close to home,
was a vivid description of the
crash of a flying boxcar in March,
1954, at Pope Air Forc^e Base in
which there was only one sur
vivor.
Younts, with the use c?(f special
remote equipment parked outside
the Country Club, also ra n a tape
recording of a broadcast rpade by
one of his staff members, during
Hurricane Hazel.
, A cartoon film describing? radio
growth and its potential was
shown the club members alt the
conclusion of the talk.
Younts gave credit to Congress
man C. B. Deane of the 8th Dis
trict for obtaining hearings be
fore the Federal Communicatiions
to get more regular daily broad
casting schedules rather than rihe
present sunrise to sunset sche.d-
