The award is the highest the foundation can give to a volun-^ teer worker. At the same time it was an nounced that H. Clifton Blue of Aberdeen, newspaper publisher and Moore County’s representa tive to the N. C. General Assem bly, was given an award for more than 10 years of volunteer work with the foundation. Five year awards were given to Valerie Nicholson and C. H. Bow man of Southern Pines, Frank McCaskill of Pinehurst, and Ralph Steed of Robbins. The awards, signed by Basil O’Connor, volunteer president of the Foundation, were accompan ied by service pins with the num eral representing the number of years served. Excessive speed was the prin cipal cause of traffic accidents in 1955. Chickens hatched by commer cial hatcheries in North Carolina during December attained a total of over IVz million—an all-time record for the month.
