Tar Heel League baseball, re
sults for the last weekend show
that Twin City defeated Southern
Pines twice, 15-7 and 9-7, and Fort
Bragg defeated Fayetteville 12-10.
League officials announcejJ this
week that Hillcrest had dropped
out of the league and would be re
placed by a team from Fort Bragg.
All Fort Bragg games will be
played on a field near the “Little
Nine” golf course on -Midland
Road.
Present averages show that
Twin City is leading the league
with a 4-2 record, followed by
Fayetteville with 3-1. Southern
Pines has won two while losing
three and Hillcrest, weak in the

Honors Daughters
Honoring her daughters Judy
and June who were celebrating
their fifth and sixth birthdays,
Mrs. A. B. Woodcock, Jr., enter
tained Sunday afternoon at the
Town Hall. Favors were given
the 30 children present and the
hostess, assisted by Mrs. Brady
Brooks, Mrs. Virgil Carpenter
and Mrs. Elmer Barnhill, served
cup cakes, ice cream, punch, pop
corn and candy.

Mrs. Mary David has gone to
Charleston for a visit with her
daughter, Mrs. Fred Johnson, and
pitching department all year, had
a 0-4 record.

Chapel Hill were guests Sunday
of Mr. and Mrs. George Hudson.
Misses Hadie Gray, Shirley
Dixon and Cletis Pridgen, all of
Atkinson, were weekend guests
of Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Woodcock,
Jr., and Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Car
penter.
Mrs. Ethel Edwards left Sun
day for Biscoe for a visit with her
father, J. C. Reese, and Mrs.
Reese and to attend graduation
exercises on Wednesday. She will
go on Thursday to Charlotte to
visit her sister, Mrs. Lillian Hoff
man, and Mr. and Mrs. M. B. Ed
wards.
Miss Billie Venable, student
nurse at Memorial Hospital,
Chapel Hill, and Marion Sessoms
of Carolina were supper guests
of Mr. Sessoms’ parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Lacy Sessoms, Thursday.,
The Rev. and Mrs. James W.
Hamilton and son Bill visited the
Rev. and Mrs. Dennis Ricks at
Shallotte several days last week.

Revival Services
To Begin Monday
Night In Aberdeen
Evangelist Ned Iverson, a grad
uate of Davidson College and of
Columbia Theological Seminary,
will preach at a series of revival
services to be conducted at the
Hardee Warehouse in Aberdeen,
beginning Monday night. May 28,
at 7-45. Services will continue
each night until further notice.
Rev. Iverson, a Presbyterian
minister, served as chaplain in the
U. S. Navy during World War 2.
A year ago he resigned as pastor
of the Presbyterian Church in Au
gusta, Ga., to devote his full time
to the evangelistic ministry. He
recently conducted a series of re
vival services in Lockhart, S. C.,
and in Port St. Joe, Florida.
The public is cordially invited
to attend the services nightly.
Sunday night. May 27, a two-
week revival at Hardee Ware
house comes to a close with Evan
gelist Bennie Skinner delivering
the messages.
New Officers Are
Installed By PTA
New officers for 1956-57 of the
Southern Pines Parent-Teachers
Association were installed in cer
emonies at Wieaver Auditorium
last Thursday night.
The officers, who were install
ed by Jimmy Hobbs, outgoing
president, are Dr. Charles Phil
lips, president; W. A. Leonard,
first vice-president; Mrs. Leon
Seymour, second vice-president;
Mrs. Stanley Austin, secretary;
Mrs. Mary Grover, co-secretary;
and Ralph Chandler, Jr., treasur
er.
In other business a report on
the Art and Hobby Exhibit held
in April included the names of
the winners. First place was
shared by classes of Miss Annie
Margaret Brewer and Mrs. Ted
Barrow. Second prize went ^ to
Mrs. Charles Cole’s fomth grade
class.
A successful membership drive
during the year produced a total
of 497 members, an increase that
officers said was very encourag
ing since this was the PTA’s sec
ond year in Southern Pines.

’Three Airmen were assigned
here recently to the USAF Air-
Ground Operations School.
Airmen Second Class Joe F.
Riddle, John C. Phelps, and Glen
P. Cunningham were assigned
here from Sewart Air Force
Base, Tenn.
Airman Riddle of Greenville,
S. C. was assigned as a switch
board operator. He and his wife,
the former Eleanor Gosnell, have
two children, Michael, 4, and Da
vid, 15 months. +
Airman Phelps of Atlanta, Ga.,
was assigned as a billeting clerk.
He enlisted in the Air Force in
June, 1954, and completed basic
training at Lackland AFB,
Texas.
Airman Cunningham, of Ham
mond, Ind., was assigned to the
scheduling section. He enlisted
in the Air Force in September,
1954, and was assigned to Sew
art AFB, Tenn., as a clerk typist.
Major Eugenio Tarantola of the
Italian Air Force is attending the
Specialist Course at the USAF
Air Ground Operations School
this week.
Major Tarantola entered the
United States in July, 1953, and
is the Italian Liaison Officer at
Williams Air Force Base, Ariz.
He was commissioned in 1933 and
assigned as a fighter pilot. He
has attended the Air Academy
and the War College in Flor
ence, Italy, and has served in
France, Albania, North Africa and
Tunisia.
He will return to Italy after
completing the Specialist Course
at Pope AFB.
