William Brantley Starnes were united in marriage at 4 p. m. Saturday in the Cam eron Methodist Church with the bridegroom’s father, the Rev. S. J. Starnes, officiating at the double ring ceremony. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Aldon F. Johnson of Cameron and the bridegroom is the son of the Rev. and Mrs. S. J. Starnes of Fuquay Springs. The church was decorated with arrangements of gladioli and cin namon ferns and branched can delabra holding lighted tapers. Mrs. Myrtie M. McPhail of Car thage, organist, and Miss Emma Bruton of Lexington, vocalist, presented a program of nuptial music. The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, wore a gown of French Dupioni silk with alencon lace trim, and full chapel sweep train. Her fingertip veil of French illusion was attached to a headdress of matching silk cov ered with lace and outlined with seed pearls. She carried a bou quet of white snowdrift. Miss Alicia Johnson was her sister’s maid of honor. She wore a dress of ice blue nylon crysta- lette and carried a cascade of mixed summer flowers. Miss ried similar bouquets. Bob Hayward of Daytona Beach, Fla., was best man. Ushers were Franklin Johnson, brother of the bride, the Rev. Julius Rice of Sanford, the Rev. Max- Vestal of Ramseur and David Bruton of Mt. Gilead. Following a reception given by the bride’s parents, the couple left for a wedding trip. Mrs. Starnes was graduated this month Jrom Duke University with an A. B. degree in account ing. She was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority. ’The bridegroom received both his A. B. and B. D. degrees from Duke University. He has served as pastor of Fountain Place and Glencoe Methodist Churches in Burlington and at present is pas tor of Cameron, Lemon Springs and Center Methodist Churches. Mrs. S, O. Nicholson Accompanies Friends On Trip To Mountains Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Hening of Richmond, Va., were overnight guests last week at the home of Mrs. S. O. Nicholson, who went with them the next day on a trip to the mountains. They went first to Boone to visit Mr. and Mrs. T. A. Bowen, son-in-law and daugh ter of Mrs. Nicholson. Mr. Hening in the godfather of little Christie Bowen, aged 13 months. After a night there, they drove up the Blue Ridge Parkway, where the mountain laurel is now at its peak of bloom, and on to Richmond. Mrs. Nicholson returned home by train Saturday night. Jones of Co lumbus, Ohio, with their four children Scott, Christopher, Robin and Claudia, were guests for three days this week of Mrs. S. O. Nich olson and her mother, Mrs. R. L. de Milhau. Mrs. Jones is the granddaughter of Mrs. de Milhau. Dr. Jones has just graduated from the medical school of Ohio State University. Mrs. Aleksy Guryn and daugh ter Marysia were home last week with Mr. Guryn, returning this week to Belmont, where they spent last year as students at Sa cred Heart Academy and college.’ Miss Jasia Guryn, elder daughter of the family, has also been a col lege student during the past year at Sacred Heart, and is working in Belmont this summer. They will remain at Belmont during the summer and continue their studies next yeair at Sacred Heart, where Mrs. Guryn and Jasia will grad uate together from the junior col lege. 'While here Mrs. Guryn help ed her husband with his arrange ments to move to New Britain, Conn., where he will be employed during the coming year. Lt. McDonald III, bom last Saturday, June 16, at Mary Elizabeth Hospital. He checked in at eight pounds, two ounces. His mother is the former Shirley Johnson of Du?-ham. Mr. and Mrs. McDonald of Southern, Pines are the paternal grandparents. Mrs; McDonald has been at her ’son’s home all this week. They have another son, Herbert, Jr., three and a half years old. James Luke, and their son Lynn, who will be her guests for 10 days. Mrs. Allan W. Shaw, Jr., and children, Allan III and Amy, of 345 West Delaware Avenue have returned home after spending a few days in Charlotte with Mrs. N. G. Howell. Mrs. Shaw took Mrs. Howell and children, Jerry and Debby, and her own chil dren to Blowing Rock, Grand father Mountain, Linville Falls and Linville Cavern while away. Mr. and Mrs. William C. Dr. McMillan plans to join his family for the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. L. S. Walker left Tuesday morning for Eaglesmere, Pa., where they have taken a cottage in the mountains for the summer. Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Coleman will occupy the Walker home on East Illinois Avenue during the Walkers’ absence. Mr. Coleman is with Amerotron Cor poration. Howard Collins, who spent the winter at the Jefferson Inn, leaving a few weeks ago for Six USAFAGOS Officers’ Wives Feted At Coffee Mrs, L. A. Silvernail and Mrs. David P. Currey were hostesses to the USAFAGOS Officers Wives Club at a coffee hour at the Southland Hotel Monday morning, honoring six of the members whose husbands are being trans ferred within a short time. The honorees were Mrs. Claude McRaven, Mrs. Robert Rader, Mrs. Paul Lynum, Mrs. Herbert Smith, Mrs. W. A. T6yne, and Mrs. Er- skine Crew. Summer flowers were used as decorations, and the refreshments were attractively served. Each guest made a copy of her favorite recipe for each of the girls who are going away to place in her card file, as a memento of their association in Southern Pines and of this particular pleas ant hour. New York City, will sail June 27 for Naples, Italy, on the Vulcania. She plans to return to Southern Pines in the fall. Mrs. D. E. Johnson of Aberdeen were in Statesville last weekend to attend the wed ding of their brother. Dr. Edward Everett Flaherty, and Miss Mar garet Bailey Swann. Dr. Flaherty was best man for his brother in the wedding, which was held^in the New Hope Bap tist Church Saturday evening. The newlyweds will make their home in Sanford where the bride groom, a chiropractor, practices. He is a graduate of the University of North Carolina and Lincoln Chiropractic College, Indianapolis, Ind. He did graduate work at the New York Institute of Chiroprac tic.
