VENABLE EXCHANGE WEDDING VOWS IN HIGH POINT an Lewis Pate Will Return To Thailand After Vacktioning Here Lewis Pate, who makes his home with his sister and brother- in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Wood ruff, of 765 South Ashe Street, left by train Sunday night for Washington, D. C., where he will be in consultation during the last week before his return by plane to Thailand. He had been in and , out of town, visiting relatives and friends, since April. His brother James resides here, also. Mr. Pate joined the Foreign Service in February 1954 and was assigned as a Provincial Public Affairs officer in the northeast border area of Thailand. He spent two years at this post. During his tour of duty, he was promoted to Regional Public Affairs officer and will transfer to the United States Information Service head quarters in Bangkok to assume this new position. Miss Deloris Dodson of Sandy Ridge was maid of honor and bridesmaids were Miss Marie Venable of High Point, sister of the bridegroom, and the bride’; and Judith Jessup, all of Eliza bethtown. They wore sheer white dresses over blue and carried nosegays of blue and white flow ers. The flower girl. Miss June I Marie Jessup, of Elizabethtown, wore a white net dress. Des Pland spent Sunday in Hamlet with their daughter and her family, going especially to attend the christening of their granddaugh ter, Sheila Bridget Snow Gita bons, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Gibbons of Hamlet. Mrs. Gibbons is the . former Aimee^ Savage Des Pland. Baby Sheila Bridge Snow Gib bons, born Feb. 18 of this year, was christened at 9:30 a. m. Sun day at the All -Saints Episcopal Church in Hamlet by the Rev. Harry Cobey, preceding the morning worship service. Her godmothers are Mrs. James B. Roberts of Falls Church, Va., the former Phyllis Vreeland whose father is postmaster at Pope Air Force Base, and Mrs Wilson Land of Hamlet. Her god father is the Very Rev. Jamtes S. Cox, former rector of the Rock- ingham-Hamlet parish and now dean of St. Andrews Cathedral in Honolulu, T. H., for whom Wil son Land served as proxy. At 4:30 Sunday afternoon Mr. and Mrs. Gibbons entertained at a reception at the Woman’s Club building ip honor of their daugh ter. In the receiving line in ad dition to the child’s mother were Mrs. Land and Mrs. Roberts, the godmothers, and Mrs. Des Pland, the maternal grandmother. Also greeting guests were the baby’s father and the grandfather, Capt. Des Pland. The refreshment table was overlaid with a handmade lace cloth in shamrock design. A silver punch bowl and tray were used, and floral decorations for the table and throughout the house were in pink and white. A large number of friends attended. The bride was given in mar riage by her father. She wore a white waltz-length dress of tulle with lace apron effect and small white hat with veil. Ralph Dixon was best man and ushers were two members of Lieutenant Bray’s company outfit at Fort Bragg. Mrs. Combs, mother of the bride, wore a printed sheer dress cere- enter tained at a reception at their home, which was decorated with floral arrangements of pink and white. The table was covered with a lace cloth and centered with an arrangement of pink and white gladioli, flanked by candles. After the bride and groom had cut the first' slice in traditional manner, Mrs. J. L. MiUer and Mrs. Paul. Troutman served the cake and Mrs. Timothy Cleary presided at the punch bowl. Mints and nuts were’served also. For her wedding trip to the mountains of North Carolina the bride changed to a black princess dress with white collar and white accessories and the wWte orchid from her bouquet. The young couple will be at home at Pinebluff until they leave for Germany, where Lieutenant Bray will be stationed next. Mrs. Fred Smith Elected To Important Post In California Mrs. Fred Smith, the former Elizabeth (Libby) Rudel McClure, daughter of Mrs. C. M. Rudel of Pinehurst, has been elected na tional Democratic committeewom- an for the State of California. Mrs. Smith, who lives in Kent- field, in Marin County across the Golden Gate bridge from, San Francisco, spent several weeks with her mother in Pinehurst this spring. She has been serving as chairman of the Marin County Democratic committee and will be a delegate from the State at the Democratic national conven tion to be held in Chicago in Au gust. NCO Wives Club Plans Interesting Programs For July July meetings of the NCO Wives Club of the Air-Ground School will be held on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month, at 7:30 p.m., the club an nounces. An invitation to attend is extended to wives of all enlist ed personnel at the Air-Ground School, Pope AFB, and Fort Bragg. Meetings will be at the NCO Club. Barneys And Mrs. Swett Visit At Weymouth Marshall Barney joined Mrs. Barney for the Fourth of July holiday, arriving from Richmond, Va., Tuesday night. Mrs. Barney and Mrs. James B Swett, her mother, are visiting Mrs. Jams Boyd at Weymouth but plan to leave for Rocky Mount within a few days. Mrs Barney is closing up their house there preparatory to moving to Richmond where Mr. Barney has recently taken up his new duties as head of the Virginia office of the Social Security Administra tion. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Luder Cadow Msservy of John’s Island, S. C. and the bridegroom is the son of Dr. Vida C. McLeod of Southern Pines and the late Dr. Walter Guy McLeod. A program of organ and vocal selections was presented prior to the ceremony. John Anderton, chap lain for Tactical Air Command Headquarters, officiated at the double-ring ceremony. The bride wore an original mod el champagne Chantilly lace street-length dress, made princess style with a sweetheart neckline, over peau de sole. Her accesso ries were brown straw lace and she carried a prayer book center ed with green cymbidium orchids. Mrs. James Morris of Hampton, Va., was matron of honor, and was attired in a lemon yellow pima and silk dress with green accesso ries. She carried a small nosegay of summer flowers. Chester Ted Ashby of Warwick, Va., served Mr. Prah as best man. , A wedding breakfast at Vic Zodda’s restaurant followed the ceremony. The bride is well known in Southern Pines, being the widow of Dr. Robert Lee House, who died while serving as pastor of the Church of Wide Fellowship here. She was educated at Elon College and William and Mary College. For the past three summers, she has served as Dean of Women for Elon College’s Summer School and in the winter, has been a teacher of special education in the Newport News Cerebral Palsy Training Center. Mr. Prah is a native of Slovenia, Yugoslavia. While a student at Graz University in Austria, he was forced by the Nazi army to become a member of a work bat talion on the Russian front. He fled to his homeland as the col lapse of Nazi Germany became imminent and joined the Yugoslav Partisans, with whom he fought until the end of the war. After Tito came into power, his family refused to accept the political ide ology of Tito’s regime and they were forced to flee to Austria. Mr. Prah, who is a linguist, served as an English interpreter with the British Occupation Forces until he came to the United States in 1951 as a political exile. In 1952 he joined the United States Air Force and served in Ko rea and Japan, under the Far Eastern Command. During this time, he became an American citi zen. He has been on missions to Pakistan, India, Saudi Arabia and Egypt. He received his American education at George Washington University. At present he is serv ing in the 48th Fighter Interceptor Squadron, Langley Air Force Base, Va. After a wedding trip to Canada, Mr. and Mrs. Prah will reside in Newport News, Va.
