Page SIX THE PILOT—Southern Pines, North Carolina THURSDAY, JULY 19, 1956 Rotary Speaker Reports On Last World Meeting “The best way to eaise world wide tensions is between people rather than between nations,” members of the Southern Pines Rotary Club were told at their regular weekly meeting Friday at the Country Club. Cleve Thayer of Asheboro, past district governor of the 281st Dis trict, of which Southern Pines is a part, told the club members that the recent international conven tion in Philadelphia proved to him and to many others that people from all walks of life can live and work together. At the convention, he said that, 99 different nations were repre sented. And even with so many different nationalities represented, he pointed out, the work of the convention and the many discus sions that followed proved that people, rather than nations, are the big hope for world peace. He said that noi delegates from countries behind the Iron Curtain were present “simply because there are no civic clubs behind the Curtain. Picture the United States without civic clubs!” It was announced at the meeting that Dr. Mark Lindsey of Hamlet, incoming district governor, will make his official visit to the local club next Friday. Officers of the club urged a large attendance for the annual visit. Guests at the Friday meeting were Bob Bums of Sanford and . Sgt.
