Rotary Governor
Pays Visit Here
Members of the. Southern Pines
Rotary Club were reminded Fri
day that “it is not what you have
done, but what you’re doing and
will do” that will make it a worth
while club in the community.
Dr. MSark Lindsey of Hamlet,
district Rotary governor, in re
minding the members of their re
sponsibilities as a part of the com
munity, said it wasn’t enough to
wait for opportunities to help the
community. “You have to get out
and look for those opportunities
to improve. Then, and only then,
will you be truly functioning as a
club member,” he said.
Dr. Lindsey, making the annual
governor’s visit to Southern Pines,
announced that there would defi
nitely be an exchange scholar
from this district this year. He
said that all efforts were being
made for every district in the
country to take part in the ex
change program, one of the prin
cipal international Rotary pro
jects.
The club adjourned Friday out
of respect for Don C. Jensen, a
charter member and former presi
dent, who died here suddenly

Lewis Myrick, 77
Retired Farmer,
Dies; Rites Held
Lewis G. lyiyrick, 77, a retired
farmer of Route 1, Eagle Springs,
died late Friday at his home. He
had suffered a stroke a few days
earlier. A Moore County native,
Myrick was a lifelong resident of
the Eagle Springs region. He is
survived by his wife, Mrs. Nannie
E. Allen Myrick of the home; four
daughters, Mrs. W. G. Snider of
Eagle Springs, Mrs. Silas Freeman
of Robbins, Mrs. Coy L. Brewer of
High Point, and Mrs. Carl Butler
of Autryville; four sons, Lindsay
of Aberdeen, Gustave of the home,
Adolph of Robbins, and Clinton
Myrick of Jamestown; 13 grand
children; one brother, John H.
Myrick of Star; and one sister,
Mrs. Alice Yow of Greensboro.
Funeral services were held Sun
day at 2 p.m. at Bascom Chapel
Methodist Church. Burial was in
the family cemetery.
