Five From County
Enlist Recently
In Armed Forces
Five Moore County men have
recently enlisted in the United
States Army through the Sanford
recruiting station, it was an
nounced this week by Army of
ficials.
The five are Gilbert C. Har-
bert. Southern Pines, Joseph R.
McDonald, Southern Pines, Clyde
Thompson, Cameron, John M.
White, Southern Pines, and Har
ris J. Holt, Cameron.
At the same time it was an
nounced by Army recruiting offi
cials that direct enlistments in
Army bands would be permitted
at specified posts.
Any high school graduate who
formerly played in a high school
band is eligible to audition at
Fort Bragg. If the audition is suc
cessful and the enlistee qualifies
in other respects, he will be given
a letter of acceptance in the Army
band of his choice.
Many small flue-cured tobacco
growers in North Carolina are
trying out aromatic tobacco pro
duction this year in an attempt
to make up the slack of sagging j
farm income.
