were submitted to the Aberdeen
Town Council last week.

anticipated. The councilmen not-
ed that they were accepting the
bids for fear later prices might be
still higher.
Firms submitting the low bids
were the Consoli^dated Construc
tion Company for the general con
tract ($37,800); Fields Plumbing
and Heating Company for plumb
ing ($4,895); King Roofing Com
pany for heating ($2,486); and
Cooper Electric Company for the
electric work ($2,072).
The firms have 200 days in
which to build and complete the
project from the date the con
tracts are signed.

The Vass Woman’s Club will
resume its regular schedule Fri
day, September 14, with a meet
ing at 7:30 p. m. at the home of
Mrs. Howard Gschwind, with
Mrs. Thomas Wolfe as associate
hostess. The education depart
ment will be in charge of the
program, and Mrs. H. C. McPher
son, who taught in Germany last
year and traveled extensively',
will be the speaker.
James Rowland Ferguson, Jr.
Mr. and Mrs. James Rowland
Ferguson announce the birth of
a son, James Rowland Ferguson,
Jr., on Wednesday, August 29, at
Moore County Hospital. Mrs.
Ferguson is nov\f at home, but
the baby, who weighed three
pounds, 10 ounces, will remain in
the hospital for a while. How
ever, he seems to be getting

days, is now spending some time
in the home of her son-in-law

M. Hemphell, in Hamlet.
Mrs. George M. Blue entered
St. Joseph’s Hospital last Friday
for treatment.
Bitten By Dog
George (Butch) Griffin, at
tempting to serve as peacemaker
when his dog and that of a neigh-
bpr'were engaging in a fight last
weekend, was bitten on the hand
by the neighbor’s dog as it
lunged at his. The dog had not
been vaccinated, it is said, and is
being kept at the Sandhill Vet
erinary Hospital for observation.
Butch’s hand seemed to be do
ing all right at the latest report.

Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Jenkins of
Hillsville, Va., are the parents of
a son, born Saturday, Septem
ber 1, weighing eight pounds,
four ounces. Mrs. Jenkins is the
former Polly Hudson of Vass.
