THURSDAY. SEPTEMBER 13, 1956 THE PILOT—Southern Pines, North Carolina ■c 3?- James Matthews, 82, Dies; Rites Were Held Sunday James W. Matthews, 82, died early Saturday morning in a Durham hospital. Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church in Aberdeen at 3 p. m. with the Rev. Eugene Deese officiating. Interment followed in the family plot in Old Dethesda Cemetery. Mr. Matthews was bom in Dawson, Ga., and as a young man moved to South Georgia. In 1924 with his wife and family, he moved to. Aberdeen where he became a farmer. Mrs. Matthews died in August of this year. He is survived by one daugh ter, Mrs. J. T. Culton of New Bern; three sons, J. S. Matthews of Chapel Hill, Knox V. Mat thews and Ufa A. Matthews, both of Aberdeen; 13 grandchildren, 2 greati-grandchildren and One sis ter, Mrs. Irenie Cowart of Gaines ville, Ga.
