The occasion is National sKids Day, sponsored each year by the Air Force and Kiwanis Interna tional. The Sandhills Kiwanis Club has invited the pupils of the 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th grades of schools of the county which for merly have participated in th observance of the day to be their guests a week from Saturday. The Kiwanians will provide .transportation for their guests, who are asked to be at the Air- Dr. Thompson Addresses Men Of Church Rally Dr. W. T. Thompson of Rich mond, Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in the United States, was the guest speaker at the an nual Fall Rally of the Fayette ville Presbytery Men of the Church held Wednesday at 7 o’clock at Camp Monroe in Scot land County. Dr. Thompson has been profes sor of Christian Education and Lecturer in Pastoral Theology at Union Seminary in Richmond since 1920. His subject was “Christian Family Life.” R. D. McMillan, Jr., of Red Springs is president of the Fay etteville Presbytery Men of the Church and presided at the banquet meeting. Jerome B. Clark, Jr., of Fayetteville was pro gram chairman for the occasion The rally was held in con junction with the fall meeting^of Fayetteville Presbytery which convened at Camp Monroe this I morning. Myers of McCain graduated August 17 as honor- man from the Pipe Fitter School at the Naval Training Center, San Diego, Calif. He maintained an average of 88.51 for the 12 eek course. Upon graduation he received orders to report to the Tank Landing Ship. Before entering the service, he attended Raeford High School. PvL William Muse, son of Mr. and Mi;p. Henry E. Muse, West' End, is scheduled to leave the U.S. Sept. 19 for Europe as part of Op eration Gyroscope, the Army’s unit rotation plan. Muse is a member of the 8tn Infantry Division, which has been stationed at Fort Carson, Colo., and is replacing the, 9th Infantry Division in Germany. Assigned to Headquarters Com pany of the 2nd Battalion in the division’s 5th Regiment, the 21- year-old soldier entered the Army last March. He attended West End High School. The Air Force at Pope Field, however, is inviting anyone and everyone desiring- to witness the demonstrations and exhibitions, regArdlfess of age, to visit the field. All will be welcome. Whgt’ll you see? The latest models of aircraft, fighters, bombers, troop carriers, trainers and cargo ships. And on the flight line, the Jets you’ve been hearing so. much about, in for mation and low flights. You’ll see Air Police with their equipment; the largest troop carrier in the world; thrilling drops from the flight line; a Crash Fire and Res cue Team in action. There’ll be weather displays, and displays of flying clothes, parachutes, life vests and rafts. If you’re lucky, you might get a ride in a flight line taxi before you leave. The day’s program gets under way at 10 a. m. with displays. At noon, honorary commanders, an outstanding boy and girl nomina ted by Kiwanis Club presidents from the area for “outstanding service or achievements,” will be elected at a private luncheon of officials. They’ll be escorted to seats of honor for the afternoon doings. There’ll be a fly-by of Jets and other modern planes at 2; para chute drops at 2:30; a fire-fight ing exhibition at 3, and more flying demonstrations at 4. For the Kiwanis Club guests, a substitute program has been ar ranged in cooperation with the Air Force in the event of bad weather. The pupils will gather in the Southern Pines School Au ditorium for lunch and movies furnished by the Air Force—Jets and other planes in action on the screen.
