ECHO SPRING KENTUCKY BOURBON Harold Fowler and Frank H. Kaylor, members of the Southern Pines Fire Department, will be principal speakers when the Sand hills Kiwanis Club observes Fire Prevention Week October 7-13, it has been announced by John Pon- zer, Kiwanis president. Fowler, who is chief, and Kay lor, truck captain, will help to di rect public attention to the 11,000 lives and almost nine billion dol lars in property destroyed by fire in 1955, and will explain safety measures which will help reduce the fire losses in future years. It has been estimated that urban fires, in communities of 2,500 or over, show an incrrease of almost every type fire during the past year. And, an analysis recently made shows, all other types of building fires—mercantile, manu facturing, non-residential assem bly, and storage, also show an in crease. On the bright side of the na tional fire picture there has been a fairly large decrease in the num ber of grass and brush fires, a haz ard that the Southern Pines force, as well as others in this area, is constantly faced with. The Kiwanis Club will meet as usual at the Southern Pines Coun try Club for a regular luncheon and the following fife prevention program. ' NORTH CAROLINA MOORE COUNTY notice A5. I PINT $3.85 4! sea.
