TWO SHOWS NIGHTLY
SHOW STARTS AT 7:00 PJd.
Children under 12 in cars Free
scenic
several stories to offer with pro
fessional performers, headed by
John Sutton, and the lush, dense
flora and wild fauna found only
in the depths of the South Afri
can jngle, through which the
Amazon River flows.
Spencer Tracy, one of the
screen’s most distinguished ac
tors, gives what may well be
called the crowning performance
of his career in one of the year’s
greatest motion pictures, “The
Mountain,” coming to the Caro
lina Sunday through Wednesday,
November 4-7, with three shows
Sunday at 3-7-9.
Starred with Robert Wagner
and co-starred with Claire Trev
or in an incredibly suspenseful,
magnificently filmed story of
heroism at the top of the world,
Tracey creates a memorable por
trait of rugged strength and pro
found dignity.
Two eternally dramatic themes
background this tour de force
performance, that of brother pit
ted against brother and man
against hostile nature, with both
playing an important role in an
adventure story unmatched in re
cent memory for sheer, terrifying
tension. '
Interwoven with the basic plot
is the excellently pldyed, gently
humorous theme of the Septem
ber romance of Tracy and Claire
Trevor.
Included in the supporting cast
is the bright and auspicious de
but of the exquisite beauty from
Calcuta, Ana Kashfi.
The VistaVision, Technicolor
Alpine scenery is extraordinary.
Its like has never bee put on film
before.
The Carolina also announces
the coming of the special produc
tion, of Leo Tolstoy’s great novel,
“War And Peace,” which wiU
grace the screen beginning Wed
nesday, November 14. On ac
count of the extra length of this
great masterpiece, (208 minutes)
the hours of showings will be
distinctly different from the
usual, or about the same as those
of the run of that other great
production, “Gone With The
Wind.”
The hours and the prices.
which also have to be raised, will
be announced next week.
SUNRISE
John Wayne and Lauren Ba
call star in “Blood Alley,” a Bat-
jac production for W^lmer Bros.,
in Cinemascope and WarnerCol-
or playing Tuesday only at the
Sunrise Theater.
• The same producer-director-
actor team which scored so heav
ily in '"rhe High and the Mighty”
John Wayne and William A.
Wellman, are together again in
“Blood Alley,” which bids fair to
even better their previous ef
forts.
The Wlarner. Bros, picture cap
tures a story as hot as today’s
headlines. It brings to the screen
a powerful adventure drama and
a poignant love story.
For Wayne, the role is that of
a two-fisted adventurer, exact
ly the type of part that his fans,
who have made him the top box
office attraction in the world to
day, seem to prefer him in.
For Miss Bacall, the outdoor
role is a complete change from
the drawing-room siren type she
has played so much in the past.
She reportedly emerges as an
