Page EIGHTEEN Marine Captures One-Day Tourney At Country Club Don Ajlbert, All-Service golf champion from Camp Lejeune, won the Carolinas Golf Associa tion’s one-day tournament at the Southern Pines Country Club Sunday with a low gross score of 72. He beat out a field of 148 golf ers, including 11 from Southern Pines, for the honor. Runner-up honors were shared by three golfers, all firing 76’s: Ed Justice, Rocky Mount; Bob Harrison, Fayetteville; and Van Poindexter, Winston-Salem. - John Buchholz of Southern Pines was the only local entry to capture an honor: he placed sec ond to the Class C division with a 97-29-b9. US 1 Highway Assn. Completes Plans For Fall Promotion U. S. No. 1 Highway Associa tion, Inc., has just completed plans to launch an extensive advertising campaign to attract travel via U.S. No. 1 Highway during the coming tourist season, according to Lester Rose of Raleigh, secretary-treas urer. The association plans to publish an elaborate guide book which will include an article giving in formation concerning every town along the highway. Each article will emphasize the town’s history, population, points of interest and accommodations for tourists. It will also contain a map of No. 1 . Highway and mileage statistics. Directors for this area are Mrs. Oscar Holtzclatv at Southern Pines, Billy McKenzie at Pine hurst and John Hunnemann at Aberdeen. Voit Gilmore of Southern Pines, is vice-president of the association representing North Carolina. Robert D. White, Robbins Resident, Died Wednesday Robert Dorsey White, 43, died last Wednesday afternoon at his home in Robbins. Funeral services were held Fri day at 2 p. m., at the Kennedy Funeral Home in Robbins. The Rev. J. H. Parham officiated^'and burial was in the Pine Rest Cem etery. Surviving are his wife the for mer Nellie Edwards; two daugh ters, Linda Patricia and Marga ret Ray of the home; three sons, Joseph Edward and William Dor sey of the home; Robert Milton of the U. S. Air Force, Sheppard Field, Tex.; his father, J. J. White of Jacksonville, Fla.; one brother, M. J. White of San Diego, Calif.; three sisters, Mrs. Milton Moore of Jacksonville, Fla., Mrs. Raymond Curlin Of Butler, N. J. and Mrs. Leslie Parker of Houston, Tex. Medium to well stocked stands of timber in North Carolina are listed by the recent Timber Re source Review as 86.4 per cent of the State’s total of 18,976,000 acres.
