Pageant WeU Attended A large congregation attended the pageant, “The Abiding King,” given at the Methodist Church Sunday night by the Methodist Youth Fellowship, with a few small children and adult woriters also taking part, biingiiig the number of partici pants to 50. The service was des cribed as very impressive and beautiful. At the Baptist Church Young people of the Vass Bap tist Church will present a pag eant, “Little Star of Bethlehem,” at 7:30 o’clock Friday evening before Christmas, this to be fol lowed by a Christmas tree in the new educational building. WSCS Meets The Vass Methodist Woman’s Society of Christian Service held its December meeting in the fel lowship hall of the church with Miss Ethel Davis as hostess and with the president, Mrs. R. R. Thomas, presiding. Mrs. Russell Bullock was lead er of the program, which had Christmas as its theme. All took part in a Christmas choral led by Mrs. Bullock, with Mrs. A. G. Ed wards, Jr^ Mrs. H. A. Borst and Mrs. C. P. McMUlan taking spe cial parts. Mrs. Bullock gave a Christmas reading interspersed with carol singing. Plans for sending supplies to a school in Georgia, also for rem embering shut-ins at Christmas, were made. The hostess served fruit cake topped with whipped cream, cof fee, and Christmas candies. Dinner Party Mr. and Mrs. Cortis Thomas entertained at a dinner party at their home last 'Thursday eve ning. Guests were Mr. and Mrs. Jack Morgan, Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Edwards, Jr., Mr. and Mrs. C. P. McMillan, Mir. and Mrs. Hor ace Mullinix, and Mr. and Mrs. Bob Edwards. Visit College Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Gladstone drove to Raleigh Saturday to take a group of his agriculture students to State College for High School Day. They were guests of the college at the Penn- State game Saturday evening. Students going were James, Billy and Danny Ceimeron, Larry Johnson, Jimmy Mashbum and Stanly Buie. Presbyterian Circles The Circles of Vass Presbyteri an Women of the Church met last week. Mrs. T. L. McNair was hostess I to the Jane McGill Circle and Mrs. C. G. Crockett led the Bible study. Mrs. W. E. Gladstone was jin charge of a program on the ' Joy Gift, with Mrs. Monroe : Chappell, Mrs. G. M. McDrmott and Mrs. P. A Wilson taking part. Plans for Christmas cheer work were made. Refreshments were served. Circle 1 met at the home of Mrs. J. A. Hudson with Mrs. H. L. Price as Bible study leader and Miss Polly Hudson in charge of the Joy Gift program. The group made plans for remember ing a child at Barium Springs Orphans Home at Christmas. The meeting ended with a refresh ment period. Attend Rally A group from the Presbyterian Youth Fellowship attended a rally at the Presbyterian Church in Carthage Sunday afternoon. Attending were Janice, Bruce, David and Roy Jackson, Miss Polly Gilmore, John Wayne Hipp, Bonnie Hicks, Carol Jes sup, Barbara Griffin, Joan Bald win, and their adult leader, Mrs. Eugene Hicks. Honor Sons Mr. and Mrs. Harold Lassiter gave a birthday dinner at their home Sunday honoring their sons, Wilford, Bobby Lee and Johnny, and their son-in-law, Jesse Coore, all of whom have birthdays within a short period of time. The entire family was to gether: Mr. and Mrs, Lassiter and Diane, of the home, Mr. and Mrs. Wilford Lassiter and little son, Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Lee Lassiter and Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Coore and son, Jesse, Jr., all of the Vass community, and Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Lassiter and baby of Cameron. Personals Mr. and Mrs. Haywood Jack- son and Ann Jackson of near Godwin and Mrs. Ellis Edmonds and daughter, Linda, of Cameron visited Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Mc Lean Sunday afternoon. Mrs. W. T. Cox, Mrs. Robert Waddell and Billy Waddell of Sanford attended the pageant at the Methodist Church Sunday evening. They called on the Von Metzgers and N. A. McMillan, also Mrs. S. R. Smith, while here. Marjorie Leslie Bullock went to Greensboro Friday for a week end visit to her uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Julian Leslie, and had a delightful time visiting them and seeing the city’s Christ mas decorations. They brought her home in time for Sunday School Sunday morning. Russell Bullock, who is on the tobacco market at Sparta, Tenn., spent the weekend at home. Mr. and Mrs. Edward McNair and Ronnie spent the weekend with’ his parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. L. McNair. His mother accom panied them home to Charlotte to spend a few days. Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Brooks of Sanford called at the home of Mrs. G. W. Brooks Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. A. V. Autrey Jr., and daughter, Betsy, of Ashe- boro visited his parents Sunday and attended the pageant at the Methodist Church that night. Miss Janice Graham came with them and spent the afternoon with Miss Vonnie Mae Frye. Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Callahan visited his uncle at Bladenboro Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Edwards vis ited relatives in Saluda, S. C., Sunday. Edison Callahan became ill while at his work Monday and was taken to Moore County Hos pital. Mrs. George Blue spent from Tuesday until Saturday in Lau- rinburg with her sister, Mrs. Lee Wilkes, and family. Mr. and Mrs. Wilford Dowdy and children of Sanford visited the W. H. Fryes Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Graham of Asheboro attended the Christmas pageant at the Methodist Church Sunday night. Mr. and Mrs. Bernice Graham and family of Graham and Mrs. Graham’s mother, Mrs. R. T. Gardner of Hamlet, were callers at the home of Mrs. W. B. Gra ham and the W. A. Muses Sun day afternoon. Mrs. Gardner was on her way to Graham for a visit. Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Abernathy visited relatives at Chapel Hill Friday. Mrs. Abernathy has not been well for several months and this was her first trip off in some time. Mr. and Mrs. D. H. McGill went to Crossnore on Wednesday of last week to bring their grand daughter, Debbie McGill, here to stay with them until after Christ mas. Mrs. J. B. Parker, Mrs. Ray Griffin and Mrs. Lacy McRae called on Mrs. Bertie L. Mat thews at Moore County Hospi tal Sunday afternoon. Among her Monday callers were Mrs. P. A. Wilson and Miss Bessie Camer on.
